The emergence of LIV Golf last year took the PGA Tour by surprise. Not only did the Saudi Series go on to poach players from them but also golf courses. And the Tour, on the other hand, has done tons to keep up with the rapidly growing league. From increasing purses and bonuses to even copying the new league format, they’ve done it all. And now LIV has retaliated by copying a very significant and much-loved PGA Tour exclusive.
LIV Golf targets yet another PGA Tour exclusive
Earlier this month, news came to light about the PGA Tour introducing no-cut events in its 2024 schedule. Compared to the 120- to 144-player fields that they usually host, the Tour announced that next season many events would see the field size reduced to 70 to 80 players with no cuts. As per 7 News Adelaide, the Breakaway Tour will feature a “party hole” at the Australian event next month. The idea certainly stems from the 16th hole of the WM Phoenix Open, which is known as ‘The Coliseum.’ The hole is surrounded by a 200,000-seat, 3-story grandstand, giving the fans a bird’s-eye view of the event.

LIV Golf’s fourth event for the season travels to Australia to the Grange Golf Club. There, the 12th hole, named ‘The Watering Hole,’ will host DJs, grandstands, alcohol, and thousands of fans to cheer on the player from above.
Reports from earlier this month have suggested that the Adelaide event has already sold out. So, for an already hyped-up event to now receive such a huge upgrade, it can only prove beneficial for the Saudi side. Moreover, if they are able to replicate the Phoenix Open atmosphere, then the event could also potentially boost LIV’s viewership and fanbase. It’s all in the hands of thousands of inebriated Australians now!
