Jordan Spieth has stellar records at Augusta National. But this year, the second-youngest Masters champion is trading with caution. His wrist injury, which put a spanner in his career goals last year, has cropped up again. Spieth revealed that he is receiving constant treatment. First and foremost, the three-time Major winner needs rest, which he can’t afford at this point.
The only other option left for him is surgery. Spieth knows that his wrist is in pretty bad shape, and he admitted that as much before the Masters. With a slight regret in his tone, the 13-time PGA Tour winner revealed he has ignored the issue for quite some time, and now he is suffering.

Spieth admitted from Augusta National Golf Club that his wrist flared up three times this year. The 13-time PGA Tour winner noticed it first at the Sentry in January and then at THE PLAYERS Championship. And, once again, last week in Texas. The 30-year-old missed the cut at the PLAYERS, and after a tumultuous round at TPC San Antonio, Spieth tied for the 10th spot.
“When it happens, I can’t do anything that day. So as long as it doesn’t happen during — typically, as the week goes on, it gets better and better, using it more and more, and I’m recovering more and more than, say, my days off at home. I’m getting treatment daily here.”
The issue arises at the ECU tendon, which connects the forearm to the wrist. Per the Hospital for Special Surgery, “Most golf-induced wrist injuries due to overuse are successfully treated non-operatively, but the golfer may have to give up the game for an extended period of time.” Jordan Spieth admitted as much in the Tuesday press conference. He knows he needs to rest. But he hasn’t been able to.
It seems pretty clear now that Jordan Spieth will need an extended rest or surgery for his wrist to ever be 100% again. #TheMasters

“It’s something that I don’t think there’s really anything I can do other than rest. And I’m not resting it anytime soon. So I’ll probably take quite a bit of time when the season’s over and see if it kind of sets it back in place and doesn’t flare up as much.” The injury has left its mark on Spieth’s game as well, as his poor run of form continues.

How has Spieth suffered because of the injury?
The three-time Major winner hasn’t lifted silverware since defeating Patrick Cantlay in the 2022 RBC Heritage playoff. This year, Jordan Spieth has a wildly inconsistent form, dotted with three top-10s, two MCs, two finishes outside the top 30, and a DQ at the Genesis Invitational. While the 13-time PGA Tour winner ranks 8th in SG: Total, his iron game has fallen by the wayside. Spieth ranks 98th in SG: Approach to Green, losing .027 stores compared to the field.
Add the wrist injury to that, and it doesn’t augur well for the 30-year-old. The same wrist problem forced him to skip the Byron Nelson last year. Spieth managed only one runner-up and seven top-10s the previous season. The three-time Major winner revealed in December that he aggravated the problem last October while making breakfast for his son. Currently, Jordan Spieth has to choose between surgery and prolonged rest.
