Is Jordan Spieth becoming irrelevant in golf, or can he bounce back from this nightmare?

A T3 at the Sentry was an incredible start to the 2024 season. However, Jordan Spieth failed to continue that streak in the later events. One disqualification and five missed cuts were already following the 3-time major winner when he teed up at the Genesis Scottish Open. Spieth had a chance to overcome his misfortunes and find his form at the Renaissance Club.

But unfortunately, he missed that chance as well. Just a week before the last major starts, Spieth has missed the sixth cut of his 2024 season. The cutline for the Genesis Scottish Open was kept at 3 under and the 30-year-old scored 71 and 68 in two rounds to be 1 under 139. With a two-stroke deficit, Spieth left the North Berwick greens disappointed.

The 54 Golf news channel, which primarily shared LIV Golf news on X, took a dig at the 13-time PGA Tour winner’s declining form as he stood T94 at the Scottish Open leaderboard. As Jon Rahm had been said to have lost his form, after joining LIV Golf, the profile made a sarcastic remark on Spieth related to the same issue. They said, “He’s been completely irrelevant ever since going to LIV Gol—-blah blah blah” and laughed.

After Spieth missed the cut and the scores surfaced on social media, other golf enthusiasts also did not shy away from calling out his dropping form and making fun of it at the same time.

Jordan Spieth gets ridiculed by the golf world because of his poor performance

It has been more than a decade since Jordan Spieth turned professional in 2012. In these years, the 30-year-old has amassed 13 PGA Tour victories, including three majors, in his career and many other accolades that sit on his shelf. So, despite enjoying decades of fame, Spieth surely has more time before his career is over. But after seeing his recent form in the 2024 season, one fan disappointingly said, “His career is over can we move on.”

It is not just that Spieth has been missing back-to-back cuts. But what’s also worrisome is the lack of top-10 finishes in his 2024 scorecard. Having played 19 events, Spieth has only three top 10s. The last one was at the Valero Texas Open in April, where he finished T10. After that, the 3-time major winner missed the cut at the Masters and consistently finished the events outside top-25. As disappointing as it was, Spieth missing the cut at the Scottish Open was not surprising for one of his fans. Dejectedly, they asked, “What did you expect” as he had been in bad form for quite a while.

Spieth started winning on the PGA Tour the year he joined the league in 2013. With his first trophy coming at the 2013 John Deere Classic, the 3-time major winner won continuously until 2017. After which, his wins on the circuit took a dip and Spieth carded only two more victories in four years. But that cannot diminish the power the 30-year-old held during the initial years of his career.

Thus, this user partially agreed with the tweet but they recalled the times when Spieth won on the Tour and was one of the best professional golfers. They said, “A point well made. I actually enjoy Spiethy, I think he has a lot to offer and is a great talent. Some of his pre shot routine is a bit strange, needs to go back to his old style. Hopefully he regains his form.” But not everyone had the same thought. While this user remembered Spieth’s past victories, another seemed to overlook it. Taking a jab at Spieth, this viewer said, “The guy’s been irrelevant for years. Good for a few rounds here and there but he’s been consistently bang average for years.”

Is it now time for Spieth to join LIV Golf? The 13-time PGA Tour winner has been a vocal opponent of the breakaway circuit and the players who chose the disruptive league. He even had a long debate with Rory McIlroy over his stance on the LIV Golf and PGA Tour. But maybe after struggling to put up a good score on the PGA Tour, it might be time for Spieth to move boards, doesn’t it? This fan thinks it is, saying, “He’s perfect for LIV. Can’t miss a cut there. LIV guys can watch him every year at the masters and at the Open Championship until he’s 60.”

The missed cut at the Genesis Scottish Open might cost Jordan Spieth a lack of momentum when he tees up at the Open Championship in just a few days. Will the 13-time PGA Tour winner be able to recover until the last major? It remains to be seen.
