The par-3 contest is not a game, but an emotion. It’s a time when the usual intensity of competition gives way to joy, laughter, and making memories. For some, it’s a chance to reconnect with the simple pleasures of golf, while for others, it’s an opportunity to share the experience with loved ones. For Jordan Spieth, the par-3 contest is a special event that brings back memories of his childhood.
He recalls playing the contest with friends like Justin Thomas and Rickie Fowler, engaging in friendly wagers and hole-in-one bets. Now, as a father, Spieth gets to experience the contest with his kids. He mentions his son, who showed promise on the course last year, and his daughter, a spunky one-year-old who’s already making her presence known.
Spieth’s excitement is palpable as he looks forward to sharing the experience with his children. He chuckles at the thought of having to keep an eye on his little ones, making sure they don’t get into mischief. “It’s full circle, right? I used to play it with myself, Justin, and Rickie, and we were doing hole-in-one bets. Now I’ve just got to make sure that Sammy doesn’t hit somebody. It’s a very, very different — very full circle,” he said at the Masters press conference, capturing the essence of his journey from carefree young golfer to proud father.

His son showed great promise on the course last year, hitting a few impressive shots, and Spieth hopes he’ll want to participate again. “He’s going to love it,” Spieth says of his son’s upcoming experience at the contest. Meanwhile, his spunky one-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Sophie, will also be joining in on the fun, with Spieth eager to see how she’ll do. “I’m excited to have both of them out there.”

The Par 3 Contest is underway, and adorable moments are already emerging. Sammy Spieth, son of 2015 Masters champion Jordan Spieth, hit the first tee shot for his dad, taking driver and smacking the ball, with the patrons giving him raucous applause. Sammy also hit the tee shot on the next hole, too, hitting it straight off the tee, but that is not the only amazing moment of the 2025 Par-3 contest so far.

Ryder Cup Captain credits mustache for hole-in-one
In a hilarious turn of events, Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley attributed his hole-in-one at the 2025 Masters to his trusty mustache. Just moments before making the shot, Bradley joked about the long-term implications of his new look, saying he brought it back after a two-week stint without it resulted in poor play. “I shaved it off and I played two weeks and did not play well at all,” Bradley quipped. “So I had to bring it back.” And bring it back he did, with impressive results – a hole-in-one on No. 6 during the Par 3 Contest, playing alongside his sons Logan and Cooper.
The ‘stache even caught the attention of ESPN commentators, with Scott Van Pelt joking that Bradley was channeling a 1978 Boston Red Sox reliever vibe. Bradley himself acknowledged the potential consequences of his newfound superstition, saying that if he wins or plays well with the mustache, it’ll have to stay. “It’s a dangerous, dangerous thing that I’m messing with here,” he admitted. Despite the risks, Bradley was thrilled with the outcome, saying, “I’ll put that memory up with anything I’ve ever done in the game of golf.” The mustache may have started as a joke, but it’s become an integral part of Bradley’s game – and his family’s memories.
