The 2022 Masters is halfway through its completion by the end of the second round yesterday. The completion of the round on Friday meant that the playing field at the event would be filtered as the cutline is determined after 36 holes. Moreover, let’s take a look at the list of notable names missing the weekend at Augusta National Golf Club.

Big names missing the cutline at the 2022 Masters

The second round at the Augusta National Golf Club was tough. Moreover, high winds made it challenging for the professionals to card a firey round on a moving day at the Masters. The round also accompanied a mixed bag of emotions for the professionals, with Tiger Woods making his 22nd consecutive cut on Friday. However, the day was a cruel and disappointing one for some of the notable names in the field as they could not make the cut line.

Not to forget, only the top 50 players and ties move forward to the weekend at the Masters. From 2013 to 2019, it used to be top 50 and ties plus any professional within 10 shots of the lead. However, with a change in the rulings now, only the top 50 professionals and ties can make it through to the third and the fourth round.

Moreover, after completing the second round on Friday, the cutline was determined at four over par. As a result, some of the big names in the field missed the cut and will not be able to advance to the 2022 Masters. The big names to miss the weekend at Augusta National include:

  • Jordan Spieth, the 2015 Masters champions carded rounds of two-over-par, 74, and four-over-par, 76 in the two rounds. He ended his Masters attempt at a score of six over-par and missed the cutline by two strokes.
  • Following Spieth is the four-time major championship winner, Brooks Koepka. The American professional carded rounds of three-over-par, 75’s in the two rounds. As a result, he also missed the cut by two strokes.
  • Xander Schauffele is another big name to miss the cut at Augusta. He ended the event with an overall score of seven over par. As a result, he missed the cut by three strokes on Friday.

  • Abraham Ancer is also among the prominent names to miss the cut. He carded two rounds of even-par 72 and seven-over- par, 79. After completing his round on Friday, he also missed the cutline by a tight margin of three stokes.
  • Following Ancer is Gary Woodland, among the names to miss the cut. The 37-year-old carded rounds of three-over-par, 75, and five-over-par, 77. As a result, he finished with a score of eight over-par.
  • Bryson DeChambeau also missed the cut at Augusta National. He carded rounds of four-over-par, 76, and eight over par, 80. As a result, he missed the cutline by whopping eight strokes.

Who is leading at the Masters?

Scottie Scheffler is the pack leader after the second round on Friday. The World Number One in the Offical World Golf Rankings carded a round of five-under-par, 67 in his second round. He is currently scoring eight-under-par and is leading by a whopping five-shot lead heading into the third round on Saturday.
