The Kapalua Plantation Course in Maui is witnessing some mouth-watering and record-breaking action. In fact, Justin Thomas and Jon Rahm are making it look so easy that we won’t be shocked if a couple of other golfers achieve the same in the last round of the Sentry Tournament of Champions.
In the third round in Kapalua, Justin Thomas broke the course record with a fiery 12-under 61, the lowest score ever carded. Moreover, rejuvenated after an almost three-month rest, Jon Rahm was in no mood to let him steal the spotlight. Just a couple of hours later, the world number 1 joined JT by finishing his round with the same score.

The fair weather conditions and enthusiastic and refreshed mindset of the players seem to be helping them achieve these extremely low scores. Meanwhile, Rahm is tied on the top spot on the leaderboard, alongside Australian Cameron Smith. The two, at 26-under, are a stunning five strokes clear of Daniel Berger and unless something is to go amiss on Sunday, we will be treated to a fierce fight between the two.
Jordan Spieth reveals he was trying to keep up as Justin Thomas broke the record
As revealed by JT‘s tracker account on Twitter, Jordan Spieth, who was playing with Thomas, said, “We kind of started out, it looked like we were both going to do it, and then when he started kind of making a few there on the back nine, I was really trying to push myself to keep up, He has a tremendous ability to continue to push that lower and lower and lower, and it’s a skill, It was certainly fun to watch, him being a buddy of mine, but I was also trying to push myself as well.”

Meanwhile, Justin, who carded this insane score with eight birdies and two eagles, didn’t think he played extraordinarily. He admitted, “I played well. Didn’t do anything crazy. Just took advantage of all the, I felt like, easy opportunities and chances that I had and hit a lot of really good drives, quality iron shots, and wedges. If there’s such a thing as an easy 12-under, I definitely felt like it was.”

Looks like he missed a few putts too.
Great round.

Think this is the year JT puts 4 rounds together in a major and wins another. Seems like he gets Steph Curry type hot steaks when he’s rolling.

Just imagine what he’d be if it wasn’t for the opening day 74😳

This is better than a 59 on par 70! Convince me other wise

They are the best players in the world, but -26 after THREE rounds is not a good look. Hitting wedges all day leads to this. Boring.
