“It’s full circle, right? I used to play it with myself, Justin, and Rickie, and we were doing hole-in-one bets. Now I’ve just got to make sure that Sammy doesn’t hit somebody. It’s a very, very different — very full circle,” Jordan Spieth said, beaming with excitement as he looks forward to sharing the Masters experience with his own kids. His enthusiasm was contagious as he talked about his son. But why was it so special? His son showed impressive skills at last year’s Par-3 Contest, and his spunky one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Sophie also joined in on the fun. “He’s going to love it,” Spieth gushed about his son’s upcoming experience, and he’s equally thrilled to have both kids by his side, marking a new chapter in his life as a proud father. Even though it was Nico Echavarria who made the win at the Par-3 contest this year, Spieth is happy regardless!

Speaking on the latest episode of The Masters on YouTube, Jordan Spieth opened up about the changes he’s experienced in his life, particularly with the arrival of his children. “You know, 10 years have gone by, I’ve had ups and downs, peaks and valleys of a career from then,” Spieth said, reflecting on his first and last Masters win in 2015.

“I had surgery last summer and I’m coming off that and I just feel, you know, I feel a lot of gratitude,” The golfer underwent surgery on his left wrist to repair ulnar nerve damage in August 2024  after his underwhelming performance throughout the season. Spieth missed the cut 7 times in 2024 and had only three top-10 performances. So, as the golfer gets ready for the Masters, patrons are expecting him to bring his A-game. And while the golfer is certainly on a path to do that, Spieth’s priorities have shifted significantly.

Since becoming a father in 2021, he cherishes the moments he gets to share with his kids on and off the field. Spieth’s family life has brought a new sense of joy and perspective to his experiences, including his time at the Masters. “I’ve got a couple little kids, another one on the way, and, you know, so obviously perspectives change, what priorities change in the course of life. I get to have my son and daughter out on the par-three tomorrow… it’s just forever till I have kids out here,” he said, highlighting the special moments he’s experiencing as a father.

Recently, Spieth’s family was on hand to support him at the par-3 contest, with a team of caddies that included his 1-year-old daughter Sophie, who was seen enjoying the event with her parents. His wife Annie, who is expecting their third child in July, was also in attendance, making for a heartwarming family outing.

Despite the familiar sights and sounds of the Masters, Jordan Spieth’s life changes have added a new layer of appreciation to the experience. “It just gets better every year,” he said, exuding contentment and gratitude for where he is in life. But beneath the surface, Spieth remains acutely aware of his standing in the golf world, and he’s focused on addressing the areas that will propel him back to the top. Despite his change in priorities, Spieth wishes to excel in competitive golf has not completely disappeared.

Jordan Spieth knows what he needs to improve to make a strong comeback

Jordan Spieth’s return to competitive golf after offseason wrist surgery has been a mixed bag, with some promising moments and some frustrating ones. The three-time major champion has shown flashes of brilliance like his T9 finish at the Cognizant Classic, but he’s also struggled to close out rounds. At the Valspar, he played his final four holes in three over, and at the Cognizant, he played his final five holes in three over, including a double bogey at the par-3 17th. Spieth acknowledged the issue, saying, “I’ve got to get better at closing these rounds out on Fridays.” With him vying for his second green jacket, Spieth is working to overcome these inconsistencies and find his footing on the course.

Despite the setbacks, Spieth remains optimistic about his progress. He’s been rebuilding his game from scratch, and it won’t be a linear process. As he said, “I’m doing a really good job of battling it.” He’s had some good days, and he’s looking to build on those as he heads into the second day at Augusta National. Currently, given the four bogeys on Flowering Crab Apple (4), Golden Bell (12), Azalea (13), and Chinese Fir (14), he is sitting at T37. Add to that his double bogey on Camellia (10), and he has a score of 73.

Regardless of his first round, Spieth’s history at the Masters gives him hope, and he’s eager to see how his current form will translate to the iconic course. With his sights set on the Masters, Spieth focused on finding his rhythm and making a strong run. So, do you think he can win the Masters this year? Share your thoughts in the comment section below!
