Can Jon Rahm's charm and cash lure top golfers to LIV despite looming financial cuts?

Teams will change and you will see some new faces on LIV Golf starting in 2025! Sergio Garcia already changed Eugenio Chacarra with another pro, who has not been revealed yet. Another Spaniard on the breakaway circuit, Jon Rahm, has been on the lookout to replace Kieran Vincent after he got relegated. But the 2-time major winner’s decision to end his season early may cost him in finding a better player.

After the LIV Golf season concluded, Rahm went back to the DP World Tour for one reason: to get Ryder Cup eligibility and not lose his European Tour card. He needed to play four events, and he did, the Andalucia Masters being his last. Even at the Andalucia Masters, the LIV Golf pro was scouting for a new face, especially one who had a deal with Callaway. But he couldn’t sign one as he said, “I still don’t have a player who is already signed, but we have six or seven in mind.”

Now, Rahm had another huge event to scout through for his teammates, the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, which has a $9 million prize purse. The 2023 Masters winner is eligible for the first DP World Tour playoff event but has chosen not to participate in it. Some players like 3-time DP World Tour winner Nicolai Hojgaard, his Ryder Cup teammate Tommy Fleetwood, other youngsters including Rasmus Hojgaard, and many others who could become Legion XIII’s part.

But Rahm wouldn’t be able to persuade them, as he did Tyrrell Hatton at the start of 2024 and signed him on his team because he wouldn’t be in the field. However, the Spaniard could still reach out to players outside of the event and break a deal with them. The question is will LIV Golf be able to offer a lucrative contract?

Can Jon Rahm lure golfers with a lucrative contract after PIFs move?

Undoubtedly, the one thing that attracts players to LIV Golf is money. Yes, the format is innovative and different from the PGA Tour, but it is the million-dollar deal that allows the golfers to take the risk. Well, that was the one reason Jon Rahm himself joined LIV for an alleged $500 million even after claiming his fealty to the PGA Tour. So, for the Spaniard to sign another golfer, a lucrative would be needed.

Can Jon Rahm's charm and cash lure top golfers to LIV despite looming financial cuts?

Have an interesting take?

But can he do that? Earlier this week, the PIF’s chief, Yasir Al-Rumayyan stated at a summit that the Public Investment Fund from Saudi Arabia will be cutting down its international investments from 30% down to 18 to 20%. They would instead focus more on domestic projects in an attempt to grow the assets’ value to $2 trillion by 2030. PIF is the sole backer of the league and has influxed millions into it already. Will this decision affect one of the biggest things that set LIV apart and have the golfers come under its umbrella?

Fortunately, that may not be the case. Al-Rumayyan was talking about the future investments going down, the ones already done wouldn’t be affected like LIV Golf. Thus, Rahm may be able to get anyone on board if LIV presents a hefty offer that no one can deny.
