Is Jon Rahm right to praise LIV Golf over the PGA Tour? What's your take?

Jon Rahm has shared his desire to improve the game of golf through and through. He had mentioned that, out of all his goals, he wished to leave the state of golf in a better position than what he had started within Spain. Now it turns out, it was not the PGA Tour or the DP World Tour that made it happen, but rather LIV Golf.

The 2-time Major Championship winner is now playing at the LIV Golf Andalucía. But in today’s pre-tournament press conference, Rahm was asked how he was feeling about finally playing on his home ground. Jon Rahm excitedly replied, “Well, it feels great. It feels great. One of the very exciting, one of the many things about joining Liv was coming here and playing in front of a Spanish crowd, especially on a level of event and level of competition that I had not really yet enjoyed, right.” The golfer did not leave LIV’s contribution towards making his wishes and dreams of playing in Spain possible.

Furthermore, the 29-year-old golfer further shared how LIV Golf is giving Spain a world-class stage. He remarked, “I’ve been able to play events in Spain but you didn’t have a world-class stage, I would say. Very fantastic, great players, but it wasn’t the same level of accomplishments that we have in LIV Golf.”

Rumors have surfaced about how LIV Golf is bringing back those golf courses around the world that have not been given a lot of weightage by the PGA Tour or the DP World Tour as much. This year, the PGA Tour has not hosted any events in Spain, while the DP World Tour has only two events scheduled. The Acciona Open de España presented by Madrid at the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid, and the Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters at the Real Club de Golf Sotogrande in Andalucía. One could argue that none of these events gets as much popularity as LIV Golf as the latter has comparatively bigger names competing.

Moreover, when asked about his family and friends, Rahm did not forget to praise the opportunity LIV provided this time. He revealed how his well-wishers can travel more freely in their country than usual in the US when he was out playing on the PGA Tour. Thus, Rahm commented, “Yeah, there’s a lot of family and friends. Spanish people can travel in a bunch, especially when it’s in their home country, it’s a lot easier. Yeah, there will be a fair amount of people out there.”

Playing on the home soil means immensely to Rahm. He previously noted the duties he felt responsible for. He declared, “As a Spanish player it is my duty and if I can only come to one, then I will come to one, I will try what I can to play and to support my country. I am aware of the impact a player like me can have and I have seen it every time I come, so like I said, I take it upon me as a duty to be able to come and try to perform and give them four days of entertainment and something to look forward to.”

Before his LIV Golf Andalucía, the golfer also had the opportunity to be compared with one of the finest Spanish golfers of all time.

Jon Rahm on being the next Seve Ballesteros

“It’s hard to compare yourself with your hero,” said Jon Rahm. Seve Ballesteros was the golfer who has won the most European Tour wins to date. A former World No. 1, Ballesteros made Spain proud. After him, the Spanish community can only see potentially Jon Rahm taking the next position as Spain’s next big face. However, the golfer himself does not feel that he should be compared with the legend.

The golfer also revealed how much he loves golf, and how passionate he is. Rahm remarked, “I bring maybe not as much passion as him, but I definitely feel like nowadays, I have as much passion for the game as the next guy.” He further explained, “I don’t think anybody has more than me… I don’t think many people love this game as much as I do.”

Moreover, Jon Rahm feels energized to play on the same golf course where Ballesteros captained the 1997 Ryder Cup’s Europe team. The legendary Spanish golfer ultimately won the tournament, which was played in Continental Europe for the first time.

Do you think Rahm will follow his hero’s steps in golf? Or will this new generation be able to pave a new legacy for Spain? Let us know in the comments below.
