Whether the PGA Tour deal with the PIF over the reunification of golf happens or not, one thing is certain. LIV Golf has carved a good niche for itself. LIV is currently in its third full season and is revolutionizing how people see golf on a generational level. The new CEO Scott O’Neil agrees. During a fireside chat at CONVERGE Live, he said, “The golf is who we are, but it’s really about the festival around golf that makes us different. You can bring your family, you can bring a date, you can bring friends.” This is what LIV is trying to do, expanding golf, and changing people’s outlook. If there’s one event that has been one of the most successful to achieve this, it’s Adelaide. Even Jon Rahm agrees.

On The Joe Pomp Show, Rahm talked about how LIV Golf Adelaide is not given the importance that it should be. He recalled the event in Australia, that caught the right headlines because of how well-received it was on the island and expressed his disappointment that more attention was not given to it globally, especially in the United States.

According to Golf Digest, two million people tuned into Seven Sports’s coverage in Australia of the LIV Golf Adelaide event. The final round alone drew in over one million people, with an average viewership of 220,000.  “I always say, in the world of golf, they are doing such a disservice to the event in Adelaide. Cause of how big it really is and cause of how fun it is,” the Spaniard expressed his thoughts. He urged fans to come and experience the Adelaide event at least once so that they get to witness the thrill.

Rahm then went on to explain that LIV Golf’s concept is more rooted in global golf rather than localizing it and it is true. Even this year, LIV started its season with four international events. “You get to hit every market in the world. You are always going to have something close to you, no matter where you live in the world. You are going to have an event at a reachable distance,” 1x Masters winner shared.

And this is where PGA Tour is finding itself wanting. The Tour is heavily concentrated in the United States with very few events leaving the American continent. There were rumors of even pros not wanting to play outside North America, and how this was causing a hindrance in the merger deal with PIF. Time and again, Tour has been called out for being way too centered in the US, and focusing on just American fans. LIV, on the other hand, as some people argue, is truly trying to take golf to a global level. Even the LPGA Tour boasts global diversity with events held regularly in Asia.

The motto is basically, Golf for the world. And when Joe Pompliano explained that fans outside of the United States, would have had to travel long distances to see ‘the best golfers in the world‘ before LIV’s inception, Rahm couldn’t agree more. “Up until now, pretty much if you weren’t in Great Britain or the US, you really weren’t going to see it for the most part,” Rahm explained. Case in point, Bryson DeChambeau, and Joaquin Niemann playing the International Series in India. Before LIV, that would have been a highly impossible scenario. Do you know over 25,000 people were in attendance on Saturday and Sunday respectively at DLF GC to witness golf? For a country like India, where golf is still in the growing stage, this number is huge.

For his part, Jon Rahm also enjoys his time on LIV. He was the 2024 LIV Golf leader in individual points as well as in the money list as well. Despite not winning any event in the beginning phase, Rahm ended the season strong by winning LIV Golf UK and LIV Golf Chicago. The Spaniard has started the 2025 season in a similar vein of form.

Jon Rahm’s 2025 LIV Golf Season

The two-time Major winner has been one of the strongest performers on the LIV circuit, having never finished below 10 position in an event, since he started competing. This season, despite not having won a single event yet, Rahm finds himself in the second position on the individual points list. The Legion XIII captain is also aiming for the team title, ranked second only behind Sergio Gracia’s Fireballs GC.

Rahm is yet to finish below 6 this season, which includes a solid T2 at Riyadh and a T5 at the recently concluded LIV Golf Singapore. Niemann, who is on the first place, boasts two victories at LIV Golf Adelaide and LIV Golf Singapore and will be looking to keep the Spanish golfer further at bay as the season progresses. Rahm will tee off at the 2025 Masters where his mettle be measured against all the best golfers in the world.

The Spaniard, who won the 2023 Masters, will be looking to shut his critics up with his performance at the first major of the season. Do you think Jon Rahm can win his second Masters title this year?
