Is Jon Rahm not qualified to play at the 2025 Ryder Cup? The question of LIV Golf pros being eligible to play in the prestigious event has always been questioned. Due to the limited opportunities they received to gain qualifying points for the Ryder Cup, they would have eventually started to struggle to win their place on merit. While it didn’t happen in the last Ryder Cup due to LIV Golf having only begun, the same is not the case this time around.
Despite the challenges, the likes of Rahm and Hatton have still been on the hunt for Ryder Cup gain points. Hatton has been quite vocal about the same. The community is much more confident about Rahm’s ability to win any one of these events.
However, insiders still raised concerns about him being able to make it in the final lineup for Team Europe. Let’s see what they had to say.

Is Jon Rahm’s 2025 Ryder Cup dream under threat?
The 2023 Ryder Cup was an excellent display of strokeplay by Team Europe as they dominated their adversaries to win the tournament 16 1/2 to 11 1/2. Jon Rahm was one of the top performers on the board along with Tyrrell Hatton, Rory McIlroy, Viktor Hovland, and Robert MacIntyre. Rahm had scored 3 points for Team Europe in the 4 matches that he had played. He won 2 matches and bagged half points each in the remaining 2 to make it 3.
Damon Hack questioned the form of the Spaniard in 2025 on a video posted by the official Golf Today X account. The caption read, “I’m not sure that the schedule that he’s (Jon Rahm) played is going to lend for him anyway to be major championship tough and major championship ready.” This raised concerns about Rahm’s form. To this, Eamon Lynch replied, “Well, he did show some encouraging signs after the fall when he had to show up in Europe right after the birth of his child,” suggesting that the Spanish golfer is eager to represent Europe despite his LIV Golf & personal life obligations. After a bit of back-and-forth with Hack, Lynch ended with “The guy needs a big year.” He probably hinted that 2025 could be the year Rahm gets back on track to making it big.
However, Tommy Fleetwood doesn’t have the same views as the insiders. An ASAP Sports journalist questioned the Englishman about Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton’s chances of qualifying for Team Europe. To this, he replied, “There’s always a scenario where anybody cannot be involved. Whether that be how people play, whether people are injured.” He believes that Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton are not the only candidates looking for qualification.
Fleetwood did have some compliments for the two as he stated, “Both of them are definitely in the prime of their careers and they are playing great golf.” He said this about their Ryder Cup performances. The 33-year-old said, “They are obviously a big part of what the team has been over the past few years.” While Fleetwood did show support for Rahm and Hatton, he also brushed off their chances with his next statement. “Any of us are a few problems away,” said the English golfer suggesting that anyone can qualify.

Is Rahm in the top 6 at the moment?
Tyrrell Hatton may be under a little less pressure due to his European rankings. He sits at 3rd on the table behind Rory McIlroy and Rasmus Højgaard. However, that is not the case for Jon Rahm. The Spanish pro is at 257.80 points on the leaderboard at present. He is 161.93 points behind Niklas Nørgaard, who is 6th on the leaderboard. Rahm will need to win at least 1 of the majors to confirm his place in the 2025 Ryder Cup team.
Rahm’s next appearance is the 2025 Hero Dubai Desert Classic. This is a great opportunity for the 30-year-old to get a headstart on his rise to the top of the rankings. However, he faces tough competition from back-to-back tournament winner, Rory McIlroy. Moreover, his biggest adversary in this objective will be his Legion XIII teammate, Tyrrell Hatton. Hatton’s position at the 3rd spot is not safe considering the limited opportunities he has to gain points. The aggressive English player is also aiming to win in Dubai and bag one more major this year. It will be interesting to see if either or even both of the players make it to the Team Europe squad for the 2025 Ryder Cup.
