In case you didn’t know, Jon Rahm is in Hawaii. The 2023 Masters Champion is vacationing on the North Pacific island. In fact, LIV Golf Pro has bumped into some of his former colleagues as well, per reports. Such a small world! But all Jon Rahm did was walk the talk.
The Spaniard mentioned he didn’t get time to spend enough time with his family. Now that LIV Golf has freed him from the obligations of defending his titles in the early New Year, the 29-year-old has decided to spend some quality time. However, fans didn’t take his popping up at the right time in the wrong place very kindly.
A Hawaii vacation for the Jon Rahm family
AP reported that Rahm has been spotted in Maui. Not very far from the Kapalua plantation course, where the Sentry is ongoing. Even though he stumbled upon a few of his former colleagues, it was a rather awkward encounter. The interactions have been reported as “somewhere between cordial and chilly.”
One interesting guy in town on vacation: Jon Rahm! The Sentry defending champ has run into a few players on Maui this week.
Things are a bit awkward on that front. @dougferguson405 describes one interaction as "somewhere between cordial and chilly." https://t.co/ReUMM9XfuB pic.twitter.com/AgNBWa58mi

Of course, in a different scenario, Rahm would be vying for the Sentry trophy once again. In a different world, the Spaniard perhaps would have lifted the Player of the Year Award that Scottie Scheffler earned. At a different time, perhaps, we wouldn’t have to use vague terms to describe the meetings between colleagues. But we haven’t reached there yet, even though December 31 came and went.
However, the PGAT-LIV Golf skirmish is slowly inching closer to its climax. Believe it or not, Phil Mickelson and Rory McIlroy have decided to bury the hatchet. How long ago the defending Masters champion planned his Hawaii vacation is anyone’s guess. Make of it what you will; netizens found it an excellent opportunity to throw a jab at the Spaniard.
Netizens brandish their sarcastic sword
Even though Rory McIlroy has accepted the reality of Rahm’s “smart business move,” not everyone is okay with it. PGA Tour fans took to X (formerly Twitter), armed with ruthless jibes and vicious wits, to tear apart the LIV Golf pro.
Jon Rahm will helm his own team in LIV Golf, which is set to begin in a month. However, he is still in search of three players. Did he come to Hawaii for recruitment purposes? This fan asks.
Building his team? 🤔

One fan was wondering why Rahm announced so early on when he could’ve joined the breakaway league anytime after the Sentry. Analysts have pointed out that Rahm’s signing before the merger deadline offered LIV Golf more leverage.
Why did JR announce when he did? Seems he could have defended in Maui before jumping ship to LIV, right?

Another fan, too, seemed to be wondering the same thing. Until their serious comment took a deviation and reached the peak of the sarcastic summit.
Do you think he jumped the gun on the potential merger? Thinking the tours had merged and he showed up to play some tournament golf?

One fan invoked a pop culture reference. This user compared the Jon Rahm situation to a popular Hollywood movie where a couple, after a breakup, unknowingly picks the same Hawaii resort as their next destination.
We have a legitimate Forgetting Sarah Marshall situation developing in Hawaii https://t.co/aq2iqG0MP8

One fan took a dig at the LIV Golf fan pages. The insinuation was that they generally churn out baseless rumors just to fan the rumor flames.
Heard he met with Jay and some players and that he may be backing out of the LIV agreement.
Did I do this right like LIV stans do?

Just like when he landed in Hawaii, how long Jon Rahm is going to stay is not clear. But netizens seem to be ready to unsheathe their sharp tongues if there are any more sightings of Rahm.
