After suffering an embarrassing defeat in 2021 Ryder Cup at the Whistling Straits Golf Club, the Europeans made a solid comeback this year at the Marco Simone Golf Club in Rome, defeating the American contingent 16.5 – 11.5. The weekend provided nail-biting and entertaining moments for the golfing community.
The win for the European side, however, was credited to a player who did not even participate in the event. Jon Rahm credited this win to a LIV Golfer and a Spanish Ryder Cup legend who was his inspiring and driving force behind the win.

Jon Rahm Reflects on His Ryder Cup Experience and Spanish Golf Legacy
Prominent European golfers Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, and Shane Lowry held a press conference following their monumental success at the Ryder Cup. During the conference, a particularly intriguing question was directed at Jon Rahm about what it means to be a European Ryder Cupper for him.
He responded by acknowledging his relatively limited Ryder Cup experience compared to players like “Rosey and Rory”, stating, “I don’t have as much experience as Rosey and Rory have, but I think they nailed it.”
Rahm also emphasized the importance of staying present in the moment during Ryder Cup performances, detaching from past and future events. He said: “It’s the ability to walk through those gates and those doors and forget about who you are outside of this week.”
Furthermore, he discussed the legacy he carries forward as a Spaniard, noting, “The three main figures before me, Seve, Ollie, and Sergio… all three of them have earned 20 points in the Ryder Cup three out of nine are Spanish.” Rahm drew inspiration from these figures, believing they motivated him and the team to achieve their success.
Rahm played a massive hand in Europe’s outright win as Garcia left to rue missed opportunity
In order to play at the Ryder Cup from the European team, one must be a member of the DP World Tour. Garcia resigned from the DPWT last year after he joined LIV Golf. Thereafter he was supposed to pay a hefty fine which he didn’t. Eyeing a place in the squad, he recently tried to correct his course but it was too late in the day.
