Could nationality politics cost Jorge Campillo a spot on Rahm's Legion XIII?

So we all know how LIV superstar Jon Rahm has been hunting for a player to join his team. In case you are confused, the fourth member of Rahm’s team, Legion XIII Kieran Vincent, got relegated in 2024. Most probably, he will not return to Rahm’s side even if he earns his way back via LIV’s ‘Promotions’ event in December. So, it’s safe to say that the Spaniard is definitely looking for a new talent to join his team.

Fans, as always, have their own guesses and suggestions. However, the Captain gave a sneak peek about who he had in mind. And we think we might have some pretty good guesses. In a recent interview with Golf Sin Etiquetas, the Spaniard spilled the beans on the plans to select a golfer and who it might be. The Flushing Golf on X also made a post about translating the Spanish interview. It said Rahm wants to add 6-7 players to his golf team. One player he’s considering plays in this week’s Andalucia Masters.

“He says he has 6 or 7 potential players in mind and one of those players is playing this week at the Andalucia Masters on the DP World Tour”, read the tweet. Another thing he specified is that he will be going for Callaway staff players to help his motive of partnering up with the brand. So, there are currently two players who fit these categories – Nicolai Hojgaard and Jorge Campillo. Callaway has chosen both of them as their staff players, and they will be competing in the Andalucía Masters from October 17 to 20. Højgaard could be exactly what Rahm and his team need right now, and it’s easy to see why.

The international golfer is a rocker considering his record on both the PGA and DP World Tours, plus his popularity across these major platforms would undoubtedly help the team he joins. In addition, Højgaard’s recent appearance at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship is also a significant thing to consider even though he didn’t finish.

So, while Hojgaard might find it easy to match shoulders with Rahm on the Legion XIII, Campillo might not.

Jorge Campillo’s chances of joining Jon Rahm’s Legion XIII seem uncertain despite him matching both the captain’s hints. We all know that Campillo played with Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton at the Alfred Dunhill Links. But, the Spanish player’s nationality may be the one thing that hinders his way into the Legion XII as they prioritize uniqueness.

Confused, much? Well, let us help you understand. Campillo may have a hard time getting in because by the looks of it Rahm’s team avoids recruiting talent from the same countries as other LIV Golf teams.

This diverse approach sets Rahm’s team apart and, given this strategy, Campillo’s Spanish nationality might work against him. And this, despite his consistent DP World Tour performances. So what do you think will happen and who among the players will join the Saudi-backed league?
