On Sunday, Sepp Straka bested Brendon Todd and Alex Smalley to emerge as the winner at the 2023 John Deere Classic. This is Straka’s second win on the PGA Tour after he claimed the Honda Classic last year. While the fact that the golf pro doubled his Tour wins is a splendid achievement in itself, this victory was still further sweetened.

After rounds of 73-63-65, Sepp Straka entered the fourth round of the John Deere Classic as one of the top contenders for the coveted title. As his heroics continued on the final day, past PGA Tour winner-turned-golf analyst Smylie Kaufman took to Twitter to reveal some amazing facts about the golfer!
It turns out Straka is an old-school person who still prefers a flip phone over modern-day smartphones. Also, despite originally hailing from Vienna, Austria, he speaks with a Southern accent!
Per Kaufman’s tweet, Straka is also a “diet coke” fanatic. The 30-year-old will no doubt be indulging in one too many servings of his favorite beverage after his latest win!

A former Georgia Bulldog, the PGAT pro had the chance to shoot a history-making 59 on Sunday but ultimately shot a 62 to nab the title. For his win, Straka took home the biggest chunk of the $7,400,000 purse, which stands at an incredible $1,332,000!
Straka falls short of registering a historic 59 but still wins his 2nd PGA Tour title
Sepp Straka kicked off his final round at the TPC Deere Run with a birdie-eagle and carded four more birdies on the front nine for a 7-under 28. He then made par on the par-5 10th, only to follow it up with four more birdies in a row!

At that instant, the golfer was 11 under for the day and 23 under for the tournament. He needed to play the final four holes in 1 under to card a 59. Instead, Straka went 2-over with a double bogey on the final hole. At the par-4 18th, he hit an 8-iron approach shot from 180 yards, which ended up finding the pond on the left of the green.
Regardless of the costly mistake, he finished with a score of 21-under 263, two shots ahead of runners-up Brendon Todd and Alex Smalley. Straka has now moved to No. 27 in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) and has also significantly boosted his chances of making it into the European team for the Ryder Cup!
