John Daly is one of the finest golfers in the world. But his fine game would have been even better if so many controversies had not surrounded him. His substance abuse got him in trouble many times. His personal and professional lives have had many downfalls. If he had not had these setbacks, he would have been greater.

Despite being suspended from the PGA Tour, there have been some great moments in his career that he is proud of. He shared his proudest moment and we are here to tell you.

John Daly and his life of lows

John Daly, despite being a renowned golfer, has had many difficulties in his professional and marital life. His substance abuse and many other issues cost him nearly $100,000 in fines. It is not a good look for Daly because his potential is beyond that. According to ESPN reports, Daly is a person who has the potential to stand out from the crowd. But flaws in his character have always landed him in the news for all the wrong reasons.

Daly has been suspended five times from the PGA Tour. Not just this, he also got six probations, and 21 citations from the tour. Most of his problems arise because of his addiction to drinking and gambling. People are aware of these facts for years now. In fact, Daly shared all these issues and discussed them in his autobiography, which came out in 2006.

Forbes posted a tweet in 2014 and said that addiction ruined Daly’s career. He once lost $55 million in gambling. By that time, it was not uncommon to see his meltdowns during the tournaments. These were the known facts. There were many facts which did not come to light until 2010.

Proudest moment of Daly’s career

There have been many great moments in Daly’s life, including the 1991 PGA Championship. But there is one moment he is most proud of, and that is his glorious victory at the British Open (now called the Open) in 1995. In December 2021, he appeared on YouTube’s famous ‘FULL SEND PODCAST’ where he revealed his proudest moment. He said he would love to achieve something like that again.

After winning the Open in 1995, he said it was a dream come true for him. He said, “To win here at St. Andrews is a lifetime dream for anybody. And mine’s come true today.”

It was windy that day, but he came out of it victorious. He struggled but could sink a 66-foot putt on the 72nd hole and sent the Open into the playoff. He won the Open by four strokes in a four-hole playoff.

Daly is still a trusted member of the PGA Tour and has been part of the PGA Tour Champions since 2016. He is currently scheduled to compete on the PGA Tour Champions in 2022. Despite all the controversies, he is still loved by golf fans and is expected to keep showing off his golf skills.
