Can John Daly's barefoot magic inspire Bryson DeChambeau to finally ace his backyard challenge?

Even John Daly is not letting Bryson DeChambeau off the hook. The Crushers GC captain is on the 14th day of his unique challenge: making an ace over his mansion to the backyard pin. DeChambeau has come close and missed by a hair’s breadth. The 31-year-old is frustrated, but Daly finds it rather amusing.

Good Boy Vodka, which offers a special John Daly cocktail, posted a snippet from Bryson DeChambeau’s latest clip but added (read morphed) John Daly into it. They aptly captioned, “John Daly pulling up on Day 365 ripping darts and downing Good Boys barefoot.” Well, John Daly, who earlier collaborated with DeChambeau trying to break 50 on the greens, loved the idea.

The two-time major winner, sharing the video on his Instagram story, wrote, “I see you on Day 3-6-5,” and tagged Bryson DeChambeau. Surely, no one would complain if Daly joined the LIV golfer in his pursuit of one of the most unique feats in the history of backyard golf. And chances are he might even pull it off.

So far, DeChambeau is yet to respond to Long John‘s Instagram story. Nevertheless, John Daly can already brag about making a hole-in-one barefoot. Four years ago, the former Open champion made an ace at the par-3 11th hole at the Bone Frog Open Pro-Am barefooted. One of his playing mates got that live on camera. Daly high-fived them and exclaimed, “That makes 11 of those mother….” before noticing the camera and stopping.

Interestingly, we are talking about a man who once shot five strokes better than Tiger Woods while being hungover. Apparently, he also drank 20 vodkas (!) on the day he shot a video with Bryson DeChambeau for the latter’s YouTube channel. And he was also barefooted.  The duo also share a special bond. And believe it or not, that predates their YouTube collab by a good two years.

John Daly has always been an admirer of DeChambeau. The two share an affinity for jaw-dropping drives and mind-boggling clubhead speed. Daly was, of course, the ‘Distance King’ of the 90s topping the driving distance stat on the PGA Tour for almost a decade. And Bryson DeChambeau had his share of chart-busting distance off the tee.

Speaking of their bond, Daly told Press and Journal before this year’s Open Championship, “Bryson gave me the greatest compliment. He said, ‘I hope when I’m 56 years old, I’ll be swinging like you.’” The duo were paired for the first time in the 2022 Open Championship.

Interestingly, Daly also believes that in his heyday he could’ve outdrove DeChambeau. Given the modern-day equipment DeChambeau plays with, Daly claimed he could’ve reached 220 MPH ball speed on average. Well, we never get to know that. Given the fact that he is over 50 now and is plagued by sporadic injuries. But should the LIV Golf pro invite Daly for another collab, we might see him trying to tower one long for an ace.
