Acceptance is the key to success, they say. And the Bad Boy of golf surely has this equation figured out. PGA Tour vs. LIV Golf remains a debate with no end in sight. But while the world continues to engage in this endless debate, John Daly has decided to rise above the chaos.
Rejection does not stop Daly. Even after openly expressing his interest in the Greg Norman-backed league and getting ignored, Yes, you heard that right. Years ago, Daly revealed he begged Norman to make him a part of his smart business model. But his plea was ignored because he was deemed too old, as he later revealed.
This 58-year-old chooses positivity as he awaits his Scottish golf fiesta. Maybe there is something about Scotland that makes Daly so unfazed. After all, it has admittedly been “a special place” for this American pro. How else can one explain the unexpected amounts of optimism displayed by him as he talks about the future of golf?

As his eyes remain fixated on the Open Championship trophy, Daly has only gratitude to express. Talking about the current state of golf, the 58-year-old said, “I think golf is in a great place. LIV is really doing well and our PGA Tour is doing well. Hopefully one day everybody can play on all of the tours. I feel like golf is a world game now. It is huge all over the world. It would be great if everybody could get along and work something out. I think golf is in a great state.”

This new and calm version of Daly has events lined up this month in Scotland. From the Open at Royal Troon, the Senior Open at Carnoustie, and the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship at Trump International Links in Aberdeenshire, this senior Pro has a lot on his plate. And when you add the overarching pressure to lay his hands once again on the Claret Jug, there’s hardly any time left for hate. Interestingly, though, Daly is not alone in his stance.

Divided by leagues, united by views. This is the story of Lee Westwood and John Daly. While miles apart on the professional spectrum, the two surely have a common ground when it comes to the matter of a united future.
For Westwood, there is only one loser in this conundrum: the fans. Expressing the urgency, he said prior to the U.S. Senior Open, “No matter what the level of golf is, I think if the best players at every level don’t come together and play, there’s only one loser, and that’s the fans watching. We need to somehow figure a way that we can get the best players playing against each other more often. For sure.”

A win was not on the cards for Westwood at the senior major, unlike his LIV Golf compatriot Richard Bland. But his intentions to get the best talents together were clear, like John Daly.
It remains to be seen if John Daly will be able to repeat Phil Mickelson’s feat and win at Royal Troon as a senior pro or not.
