In the world of golf, there may hardly be any golfer with more dramatic stories outside the course than John Daly. The two-time Major winner has had more obstacles in his personal life than his golf career. However, when it comes to being a good father, similar to his golf drives, he happens to be one of the best. We take a look back at when Daly made a massive impact on his son.
John Daly II was born in 2003, to the legendary golfer and his wife at the time Sherrie Miller. As the years progressed, the marriage of Daly and Miller only worsened, and eventually led to their divorce in 2010.
Sherrie Miller won the custody of junior Daly, with the PGA Tour star claiming visitation rights in different instances. Nonetheless, after being arrested for drug abuse, Miller was arrested in 2010, handing Daly the custody of their son.

John Daly changes the life of his son within a year
After getting custody of the 7-year-old, Daly brought a massive change in the lifestyle of his son. A year later, the two-time Major winner spoke to Independent UK and shared his experience of fatherhood. John Daly spoke about how he rarely got to meet his son prior to the custody.
Nonetheless, that outcome has changed since the court’s decision. “When I was first granted custody before last Christmas, Little John could hardly write or read”, revealed Daly in the 2011 interview. The golfer blamed his ex-wife for the lack of schooling his then-eight-year-old son had.

However, thanks to John Daly, everything changed for the young kid. He said, “In just one year I’ve got him through two grades. He was so far behind because his mother never got him through school”. Big John then shared the absurd number of days Daly II did attend the school.
How many days did Daly II miss in kindergarten?
While sharing his frustration with the mother of his child, the Wild Thing discussed the number of days his son missed school in kindergarten. “He missed 84 days of kindergarten so they held him back”, Daly said.
He further added, “And then he had already missed 25 days of first grade. I’ve had to teach him every day – and I’ve got him through his first two grades in a year. That’s because I’ve given Little John a structure. He knows he has to do it”. Indeed, that may well be a turning point in Daly II’s life.
