From his famous victory at the 1991 PGA Championship to his drinking habits that have landed him in jail, Daly’s life has been full of ups and downs. Daly has similar ambitions, picking two Hollywood stars who could reprise his role on the silver screen.

Which stars did John Daly pick for playing his character in his biopic?

Daly was still penning down his experiences for the book when he discussed his preference of actors for the role. Interestingly, he didn’t want one, but two leading actors to play himself in the film, for different periods of his life.

The 2-time Major Championship winner was going through a strict diet that saw him shred 52 kilograms following a weight loss surgery. Daly revealed the thought process of acquiring two actors for the role, stating one would reprise his role before his weight loss and one after.

In his selections, Daly chose ‘The King of Queens’ actor Kevin James as the main man in the initial part. James played Doug Heffernan in the popular series, receiving a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series nomination for the performance in 2006.

Daly’s second leading actor is a Hollywood superstar

For the next part of the biopic, Daly chose popular actor Matt Damon as the leading man. “I saw Damon in The Legend of Bagger Vance…. he’d be perfect,” he said.

Damon would guarantee box-office success and is considered one of the most bankable actors in the Hollywood industry. He also has notable experience working in sports biopics, with his role as Carroll Shelby in the hit movie ‘Ford vs Ferrari’ receiving critical acclaim.

While Daly’s book, titled ‘My Life in and out of the Rough’, was published a long time back, there hasn’t been any concrete news on a potential biopic. While the story remains unmatched, the controversial and elaborate life of Daly would be an arduous task to put on view for moviegoers.

As Daly himself said, “The problem is who is going to play all my ex-wives? It would just be about my life. It would just be the whole thing, the guts of it all.”
