The LIV Golf Invitational Series has been facing controversies since its inception. Even after the Saudi-backed golf league had its third event, many fans and golfers still have not accepted it like the PGA and DP World Tour events. Yet, the American professional golfer John Daly doesn’t hate the league and even expressed his desire to join the league!

Recently, in an interview with Piers Morgan, the 56-year-old revealed how he supports the Saudi league despite all the controversies it faces. However, Daly hasn’t signed with the LIV series yet, and he considers the LIV CEO and the former world no. 1 golfer, Greg Norman, as the main reason for it.

LIV CEO denied Daly’s wish to be a part of LIV Golf

“I beg Greg Norman to let me be on the LIV Tour,” the 56-year said. Daly openly revealed how much he would like to play in the Saudi league while he appeared on the Piers Morgan Uncensored.

Daly continuously expressed how he thinks playing on the LIV tour would benefit him. Yet, he is not a part of it. “Well, Greg says he’s not doing anymore,” he explained when the interviewer questioned him about the same. Furthermore, he added, “And I’m too old.”

“I play two-three Pro-Ams every week on the Champions Tour,” Daly explained the major reason he wants to join the LIV Series. “And you know, we don’t play for a lot of money on the Champions Tour.”

After playing 20+ years on the PGA Tour, John Daly now plays regularly on the PGA Tour Champions, the Senior Tour for American golfers. And according to him, the tournaments and other related events don’t offer him and his fellow players enough money.

Meanwhile, money is not an issue with the LIV Golf Invitational Series. In fact, the most attractive feature of the new league is its $225 million total purse money for 8 events, and the appearance fee they offer its players. 

While many consider it unnecessary to invest much for the golfers, Daly thinks the players deserve to have that money. “And I think a lot of other guys that deserve that money,” he added. “Especially this old man (pointed towards himself)!”
