Prizes for the 2023 Joburg Open
The prize purse for the championship is $1.1 million. Other than the first prize, the winner will also enjoy a special bonus of 2,000 Race to Dubai Points and the 1,500 Ryder Cup points. Started in 2007, the Joburg Open is one of the respected golf tournaments of the country.
In 2021, the event was shortened to 36 holes due to the pandemic restrictions. However, since 2022, it is back to its 72 holes. Over the years, mostly African players have dominated the tournament. The format of the game is the same as any other European Tour event. After two rounds, cut will be made and the remaining players will proceed to the further rounds.
The field will see a total of 156 players with a mix of Sunshine Tour and DP World Tour ones. Names like Aaron Cockerill, Dean Burmester and Thriston Lawrence will be leading the event. The defending champion this year is England’s Daniel John Bradbury aka Dan Bradbury, who last year beat Finland’s Sami Välimäki with 3 strokes.
