Turns out only Scottie Scheffler can stop himself from making any further records. The eight-time PGA Tour winner has already set about four records this month alone, including becoming the first golfer to defend his title at THE PLAYERS Championship. After a week off, Scheffler made a scoring record at the opening round of the Texas Children’s Houston Open.

But on the cut-day, Scheffler faltered just a little, to card even par. A first this season, ending his streak of 28 consecutive rounds under par. But the manner in which Scheffler broke the streak has disappointed fans.

Only yesterday, Scottie Scheffler set a PGA Tour record by scoring under par in 28 consecutive rounds. Effectively, the 27-year-old had yet to go over par this season. Furthermore, the current world no. 1 scored 64 thrice, and only six times he went 70 or over. Until today.

Scheffler was 2-under through 17th during the second round of the Texas Children’s Houston Open. But a double bogey on the 18th moved him to even par. In the last hole, Scheffler missed a 5-footer for a par save. His bogey putt lipped out of the hole as well.

The double bogey was his first in 218 rounds and only second in 519 rounds, per stats guru Justin Ray. But Scheffler seemed rather unbothered by this. Asked about the double-bogey, the eight-time PGA Tour winner joked, “No, I do that all the time. You watch me a lot, so that happens a lot to me.

However, fans wanted him to continue with the dominant display. Some of them feel Scheffler was overconfident on the 18th. While others believe that the 27-year-old will take’revenge’ on the moving day,.

Netizens are lost for an explanation

Scheffler has recorded a top-10 finish in all but one event he has played this season. After two back-to-back victories, the 27-year-old is again in contention at Memorial Park Golf Course. Some users quipped that Scottie Scheffler was just “messing around” to make the event more interesting.

Putting was Scheffler’s only problem until a few weeks ago. Some of them haven’t forgotten his on-course tantrums. One fan commented that’s perhaps his “default settings with the putter.” While others were more serious. “Madness to not set himself up properly for the short putt is the worst way he could’ve ended the streak,” another tweeted.

All the hype around Scheffler’s record-breaking streak might have jinxed it. That’s what some users feel. They weren’t sure who to blame, though. One of them tweeted, “Y’all really jinxed him.” While some blamed the Tour itself. Interestingly, a section of the netizens felt the former Masters champion shouldn’t have shaved his beard. This user has a rather outrageous demand.
