If you ever pair up with Rickie Fowler in a Pro-Am, don’t expect tips from him. Not that he is smug and doesn’t like engaging with lesser mortals (read amateurs). Quite the opposite actually: he is one of the nicest guys on the PGA Tour. But he won’t give advice. Unless you fulfill one condition, so to speak.

Fowler, along with his TGL teammates, Xander Schauffele, Cameron Young, and Matt Fitzpatrick appeared on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The host asked Fowler if he would pair up with him. And guess what? The six-time PGA Tour winner at once agreed.

Interestingly, Fallon also dubbed New York Golf Club the ‘best-looking team out there’ calling Fowler & Co. ‘studs’. Quite similar to what Michelle Wie West said, that Fowler was an icon she looked up to after the Tiger Woods era. Speaking about making golf look cool, the one-time major winner said, “Post Tiger… but like the Rickie [Fowler] Justin [Thomas] era; I don’t think Rory was cool back in the day with the hair and I can’t imagine him being cool.

Fowler’s exuberant youth, his colorful looks, and the way he carried himself made him an instant fan favorite when he joined the Tour. So, it’s not hard to understand Fallon’s enthusiasm for partnering with Fowler. The 50-year-old went on to ask, “Do you give tips to people? Or, you don’t get involved like that?” Fallon quizzed the 35-year-old. “It depends,” Fowler responded.

Now at this point, Xander Schauffele chimed in. The two-time major winner was nodding as Fallon asked the question. “He will give tips,” said the San Diego alum. So, what’s the deal here? Rickie Fowler explained to Fallon on the Tonight Show, “I wanna wait till someone asks me. I don’t wanna get in someone’s head and interrupt what might be going on up there.” Admiring. A tip from Rickie Fowler will certainly help. But you know the last thing you need while standing over a three-footer is someone whispering in your ear that you are doing it wrong.

So, Fowler prefers to wait. There is also a chance that the other guy doesn’t need a tip. Hey, Fallon, himself said he didn’t need tips because somehow even though he hits bad, it ends up where he wants it to be.

What’s your perspective on:

Does Rickie Fowler's generosity make him the true gentleman of golf, or is it just good PR?

Have an interesting take?

And as mentioned, Fowler is one of the nicest guys on the Tour. and it’s not us, even his fellow players testify to that.

Rickie Fowler’s generosity helped LPGA Icon win the US Women’s Open

In 2014, the men’s and women’s US Open was played at Pinehurst No.2 on back-to-back weeks. Fowler had to settle for a T2 being the only one of three players on the field to break par. A week later Michelle Wie West rallied to victory becoming the only player in the field to break par. She had a ‘cheating guide’. Rickie Fowler’s yardage book.

He took so many notes being like, ‘this bunker, you shouldn’t be here for this pin, you should be there for that pin,’ and the system of how he did it, I learned a lot from looking at his yardage book,” West told Golf.com in an interview. Interestingly, the LPGA icon also considered Fowler a great icon of the sport.

Rickie Fowler is one player who stands near the clubhouse to congratulate his colleagues after their victories. As his own form plummeted over the years, that gesture invited scorn and ridicule from some fans. But Fowler had a pretty simple reason.

I’m already done playing. I’ve done everything I can do. So, I can’t change or have an effect. I am pumped for you. You won this week. Let’s go celebrate,” Fowler said in the Subpar podcast some years back. The six-time PGA Tour winner stood back for Xander Schauffele after both shot 62 at last year’s US Open.

It was the lowest score in any major and Fowler was the lone owner of it for about half an hour before Schauffele caught up with him. The 35-year-old gave him a hug when Schauffele came to sign his card. Rickie Fowler is definitely one of the nicest guys on Tour. And he would give you tips. You just gotta ask for it.
