The Houston Cougars created history! Their win against the Blue Devils sent the Cougars back to the national championship game for the first time since 1984. Every Houston fan must be on top of the world, and Jim Nantz, too! After all, his connection with Houston goes back, being an alumnus. “I’m so stoked about this weekend. We all have that little boy inside us. That fan that still lives and has a place in your heart (with) what sports used to feel like. I have it with all things the University of Houston, football, basketball, whatever it might be,” Nantz said on “The Dan Patrick Show” on Thursday. So, how did Nantz react when his team won?

It was nothing less than a dream come true for the commentator. He was rooting for the team, and it did help the Cougars in winning after a long break. With the celebration going on the court, Nantz was left speechless, wiping his tears, witnessing what he vouched for. Similar to every other fan, Nantz kept the game as a priority as he sidelined Masters Monday to stay true to his 30 years of constant coverage of college basketball.

The legendary sports commentator shared his detour from the Masters. Sharing about it, Jeremy Schilling wrote about it in a post on X. He wrote in the update, “Jim Nantz told everyone on @TheMasters @GolfonCBS media conference call that he would happily detour his arrival to Augusta to stay in San Antonio for the national championship game on Monday.” The commentator announced his retirement from college basketball broadcasting in February.

Days after the update was shared, the commentator shared his preference of prioritizing the seventh attempt of the Cougars to be in the final four over golf. However, this time not a commentator but a supporter of the team. Interestingly, the unique comeback of the team has left him emotional. Sharing the video of him after the match, where the Houston Cougars won their first national championship game since 1984. The video showcased the emotional side of Nantz on the historic feat achieved.

The post, along with the video, shared a caption that read, “An emotional Jim Nantz after watching his Houston Cougars pull off the improbable win.” Nantz graduated from the school and played golf at Houston in 1981. Now, four decades later, he still admires the college and is seen in support of the team. Though earlier, he had shown support from the broadcasting booth for more than 3 decades, now he has continued it despite his professional role.

Even after the post surfaced, the entire sports community arrived to extend support to the team after the significant achievement.
