Scottie Scheffler, is that you?! Well, that’s what anyone would have comically asked after witnessing a golfer interact with a cop on the greens. But wait, there’s more to the story. This time around, it wasn’t a serious encounter but a light-hearted one, courtesy of the 3M Open champ Jhonattan Vegas and his golf ball.
A video was shared by NUCLR GOLF on its X handle on July 29 showcasing the hilarious result of a tee shot at the par-5, 12th hole made by the PGA Tour Pro. It showcases the ball that the golfer teed off in the arms of a police officer. Following this, he came and took the lie as per the Tour officials’ advice all the while apologizing for the shot that caused the cop to not move until Vegas came.

After all that took place, the athlete was able to make a par putt on that hole, allowing him to card a score of 70 (-1) on the final day of play at the 2024 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities. This score helped him finish at the top of the leaderboard with an overall 17-under par, allowing him to emerge victorious in the tournament by 1 stroke.

Meanwhile, one would think the whole situation might have been an awkward one. However, it was anything far from it. The spectators observing the whole situation couldn’t help but let out a hearty laugh. And that is exactly what happened with the golf fans on the internet. In short, they were sent into a frenzy all thanks to Jhonattan Vegas.
Jhonattan Vegas’ tee shot on the 12th sends the fans into a frenzy
Back at the 2024 PGA Championship, Scottie Scheffler was arrested by the Louisville PD on various charges. One of them included the second-degree assault of a police officer. Consequently, a fan could not help but take a dig at the whole situation after witnessing the recent interaction. They came forward to comment, “Glad it wasn’t the Louisville PD,” while another follower responded, “His $80 pants are now ruined!” Officer Bryan Gillis, who was apparently injured, had brought up the issue of his $80 pants being ruined as a result of the Valhalla incident many times, eliciting many laughs from the community back then as well.

On the other hand, a couple of fans didn’t miss the opportunity to make fun of the whole situation by sarcastically (and comically) expressing their gratitude that it wasn’t Scheffler who made the shot. “Thank god it wasn’t Scheffler, things could have got ugly,” and “Good thing it wasn’t Scottie’s drive,” were some of the comments dished out by the followers. Interestingly, the 2024 Masters champ, as a result of his attempt to enter Valhalla, faced four charges including the second-degree assault of a police officer (Felony), third-degree criminal mischief (Misdemeanor), reckless driving (Violation) and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic (Misdemeanor).
There are many hazards on a golf course, some of which are infamous for giving golfers a hard time. Such is the case with the ‘Coffin’, the bunker at the par-3, 8th known as ‘The Postage Stamp’ at the Royal Troon. However, the case this time around was a bit different for it wasn’t a natural one, but a “Man-made hazard,” as pointed out by a fan. Another, at the same time, could only dub the whole situation as nothing short of an “Epic” moment. Well, do you agree with them? Let us know in the comments below!
