The Grant Thornton Invitational, irrespective of all the off-court caboodle, has the spotlight currently as players are seen making redemptions and resurges on the greens. Nelly Korda and Tony Finau have been on a roll. The Nike duo had a studded first-day finish on the top of the leaderboard, and after the second round, the players are only two strokes behind the current leaders Lydia Ko and Jason Day.

As the play unfolds, Jessica Korda—who was earlier ought to take the greens with Rickie Fowler at the maiden tourney but withdrew later—has been seen on the greens, interviewing the LPGA-PGAT pairs. In a recent conversation with LPGA’s cover girl and Finau, sister Korda has gained some startling insights.

After the second day of play, the golfers discussed their driving range. Jessica Korda asked the pair about their game plan and whether they talked about it the day before during the round or on the go. Nelly Korda took to answer first and said that the pair decided on the strategy for Day 2 play when they saw each other at the gym.

Finau chimed in and added that they looked at their game and saw what needed to be focused on. “I was like I think ‘I should be hitting the evens, and you should be hitting the odds.’ Before today, it was odds and evens, so it ended up working out well.” The golfer also added that he thought the pair did a “good job” of strategizing their game.

Jessica Korda then asked the pair about their strategy for Day 3 of the play, and humorously, the golfers said that they would discuss it tomorrow morning at the gym. Finau further added, “I think we have a good beat on each other’s golf balls at least. I got to hit a couple of her shots… whatever the game plan is. Bombs and bombs on the greens and Bombs off the tee. That’s what we are looking for tomorrow.”

The players scored a deal on the leaderboard this time, and as the game unfolds, the duo has high hopes to win—exemplified by their game and their repeated claims to rake a win.

Finau answered first, adding that he did make some mistakes that he would like to return to, but overall, they are “in a great position on a golf tournament tomorrow,” and if they play well, they “still have a great chance to win.”

Nelly Korda also took her time to answer the question, and talking about the alternate shot, she added, “We actually used your [Tony Finau’s] golf ball majority of the round.” The golfer mentioned that she thinks an alternate shot is a “tricky format” and that whenever you can get a score under par, “I think that’s good.” The golfer said, “Hopefully, we can put together a good score going tomorrow.”
