Saturday round of THE PLAYERS Championship 2025 was a Bud Cauley day! The birthday boy started the celebrations a day earlier as he rocked the course at TPC Sawgrass to climb up the leaderboard. A wind-cursed third round took many prisoners like Akshay Bhatia, Min Woo Lee, and crowd favorite Rory McIlroy. But Cauley had other plans as he absolutely dominated the round to score a 6-under par 66. This helped him jump up the scorecard to T2, just 1 stroke shy of J. J. Spaun.
And now that Cauley has turned 35, he will step on the field with one goal in mind: to win the first PGA Tour title of his career. And what a win it will be with THE PLAYERS Championship 2025. The final round at TPC Sawgrass will light up if he can replicate his performance from the penultimate day. But the PGA Tour wanted to celebrate his amazing performance even before he started competing in the fourth round. And hence, they shared a post dedicated to Bud Cauley just a few hours ago.
The official Instagram page of the Tour shared a post captioned “Get to know @budcauley.” It included a slideshow of Cauley’s career highlights right from his early days practicing on a course 6 miles away from TPC Sawgrass. The post also included a bit about the accident he had in 2018 that led to surgery and a long road to recovery. The post shows how Cauley has grown into the player he is today and is now competing with the best golfers in the world for THE PLAYERS Championship 2025.

The struggles Bud Cauley has faced in the 14 years since he has turned professional are truly inspiring. Having to fight for a place in the PGA Tour every year is no easy task. One of his followers shared their best wishes for Cauley as he faces another challenge in the final round of THE PLAYERS Championship 2025. They said, “I pray he wins…it would albeit not be a fair exchange, but it would help balance out all he’s been through.” A PGA Tour title might not make up for everything Cauley has been through -14 years without a title and his car accident in 2018. But it would still mean a lot to him as he has dreamt of winning it for many years.

There were others as well who only wanted to wish him the best for his last-round battle. Someone commented, “Still in awe of how he recovered from that freaky accident even though this is not my first time hearing his story. I will root for him on Sunday.” It seems that this fan followed the career of Cauley before his triumph in the penultimate round of THE PLAYERS Championship 2025. Especially about the phase in the PGA Tour pro’s life when he had the horrific accident. The 35-year-old suffered six broken ribs, a collapsed lung, and a broken leg in the second round of the Memorial Tournament 2018. Hopefully, he gains a much larger fan following if he does capture the title in the final round.
Then there was a fan who wanted to keep Cauley motivated for what’s to come next. They said “The challenges you face introduce you to new strengths. failure is a better teacher than success, so don’t let failure stop you. Failure is the builder of character #michellechristoph_” Struggling for a win since 2011, Bud Cauley definitely knows a thing or two about perseverance. Hopefully, Bud Cauley caught this inspirational quote before stepping onto TPC Sawgrass. This would definitely encourage him to give it his all and overcome the challenges in the PGA Tour event.
One of the fans has been keenly observing Bud Cauley since the 2025 Cognizant Classic, it seems. Their comment read, “love bud was just watching him on the range at the cognizant just flushing it.” Cauley did have a great run at the Champion Course in the PGA National Resort. His second round performance was the highlight for him as despite scoring a bogey in the front 9, he recovered with 5 birdies to go 4-under par 67. Unfortunately, a disappointing last-round performance pushed Cauley down to T56.

A comment simply called Cauley the “People’s champ 🐐.” No, they were not comparing him to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. What they simply meant is that Cauley will always be a beloved figure for the fans on the course. Regarding the “🐐” bit, even Jessica Korda had something similar to say. She commented “BC THE 🐐” on the post, complimenting Cauley for his amazing journey.
