We all know how PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan has been working tirelessly to prevent the poaching of young talent by LIV Golf. In a bid to retain its stars, the PGA Tour has announced significant changes to its PGA Tour U program which will offer more exemptions and a clearer path to the main tour. The changes, which include exempt status on the Korn Ferry Tour for the top 10 players in the PGA Tour U rankings, are aimed at keeping young players within the PGA Tour fold. However, despite these efforts, LIV Golf continues to lure some of the sport’s most promising young players with its lucrative offers and innovative format.
Per the latest tweet by Monday Q Info, it seems like LIV Golf is on the verge of snagging another talented young golfer. Tom McKibbin, a 21-year-old golfer from Northern Ireland, is reportedly in talks to join Jon Rahm’s LIV Golf team, Legion XIII. “Spanish new outlet, Ten Golf, are reporting that Tom McKibbin is in discussions to join Jon Rahm’s LIV Team, Legion XIII,” read the tweet. This would be a significant coup for Rahm and LIV Golf, as McKibbin has already shown impressive form on the DP World Tour.
McKibbin, who secured a dual card on the DP World Tour and PGA Tour after a strong performance at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai, has spoken about his excitement at the prospect of testing himself against the best players in the world, including his hero Rory McIlroy. “Yeah, it would be great to be over there on the PGA Tour, a tour I’ve watched for a long time, and it will be great over there and play some golf,” McKibbin had said, last year.

Tom is from the same club as Rory McIlroy and they are good friends. He’s also playing this week with Tyrrell Hatton at the Team Cup on the DP World Tour. https://t.co/2TR5Z5D7Wj

If he does join LIV Golf, McKibbin will be following in the footsteps of other young players like Yubin Jang, who recently joined LIV’s Ironheads team and Jay Monahan’s best efforts will go in the garbage.
But is Tom McKibbin any good?
Well, the answer to that is a solid yes. Tom McKibbin is a talented young golfer who’s been making waves in the golf world. He turned pro as a teenager and has been on a roll ever since. He won the Porsche European Open in his rookie season in 2023, which was a huge accomplishment. Now, he’s competing in the DP World Tour-organised 2025 Team Cup and is set to play in the Hero Dubai Desert Classic next week. That’s a big deal, especially since his idol Rory McIlroy will be defending his title there.

McKibbin’s had an amazing run so far, and it’s clear he’s got what it takes to succeed in golf. Last year, he finished 18th on the Race to Dubai rankings and earned a full card on the PGA Tour. That’s no easy feat, especially considering he was up against some tough competition. With rumors swirling that he might join Jon Rahm’s LIV Golf team, it’s worth wondering if this could be a savvy move for both parties. McKibbin would get to play alongside some of the biggest names in golf, and Rahm’s team would get a talented young player with a ton of potential. So maybe this potential addition to Jon Rahm’s team could be a good one? Ah, well. We’ll have to wait and see.
