The TGL golf league is making some serious waves in the golf world. Its inaugural season will launch on January 7, 2025, and despite some critics saying the stadium isn’t ready yet, fans are super stoked. The TGL is all about shaking things up and bringing a fresh perspective to the game. And with its innovative approach and star-studded lineup, it’s poised to disrupt the traditional golf landscape in a big way. I mean, who wouldn’t want to watch a faster-paced, more exciting version of golf?
The TGL’s founders, including Tiger Woods, are committed to making golf more appealing to a wider audience, and it’s already paying off. In the latest episode of Fore Play Golf on YouTube, Frankie Capan shared his thoughts on the TGL’s shot clock, saying “40 seconds was no time… especially if we were up there or something, we had like a lag down here grinding over it, wow.” This sentiment really highlights just how challenging it can be to make a shot under that kind of pressure.
The shot clock is a total game-changer, and it’s forcing players to think on their feet and make quick decisions. It’s adding an extra layer of excitement to the game, and fans are loving it. Capan even went so far as to call the shot clock, “The shot clock is the biggest difference in golf.” That’s a pretty bold statement, but it’s clear that the shot clock is having a major impact on the game. The TGL is pushing the boundaries of what golf can be, and it’s exciting to see where this new approach will take the sport.

“It’s Like Playing at London Stadium!” Billy Horschel on TGL’s stadium
PGA Tour player Billy Horschel has likened TGL’s stadium to playing at one of English Premier League football’s biggest venues, ahead of the new indoor golf league’s debut next week. The TGL’s opening night will be broadcast live on Fox Sports and Kayo on Wednesday, January 8, and Horschel believes the experience for players and fans within the arena will be akin to attending a home game of his beloved West Ham United at the London Stadium. “It’s like playing at London Stadium!” Horschel said of TGL’s Sofi Centre at Palm Beach State College in Florida. The brand-new venue boasts a massive golf simulator screen, standing 64 feet high by 53 feet wide, as well as a putting and short game area that’s the size of four basketball courts.

The concept, developed by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s company TMRW, caters well to both new fans and traditional golf lovers. “For the hardcore golf fan, they are going to enjoy all the numbers and data,” Horschel told Sky Sports. “The launch conditions, how much a ball has spun, how far did it go – they are going to get a kick out of that.” The screen will display all the data and numbers, providing a unique experience for fans. Horschel believes it’s going to work for everyone, with non-golf fans seeing something different and hardcore fans getting all the data and seeing players in a different light.
