As the golf landscape continues to evolve, a stark reality is looming for PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan. Despite his efforts to maintain the status quo, the rise of LIV Golf is poised to shake the very foundations of the sport. On Flushing Golf’s latest podcast episode on Spotify, the host and golfer Jerry Foltz discussed the implications of LIV Golf’s emergence.

We all know that the Saudi-backed league is gaining momentum, and it’s only a matter of time before top players join the league. Superstars like Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, and Jon Rahm have all defected to the new league, bringing with them a level of excitement and competitiveness that’s hard to match. The likes of Dustin Johnson, Sergio Garcia, and Phil Mickelson have also joined the ranks, making LIV Golf a perfect competitor to the PGA Tour.

This seismic shift has changed the golf landscape and has made LIV Golf a major force in team golf. Jerry Foltz recently shared his thoughts on the matter, and his prediction is both hopeful and eye-opening. While major championships will always be the ultimate individual achievement, LIV Golf’s team-based format will offer something entirely new and exciting. As Foltz put it, “I see that as being the thing that every star player will be a member of a team within LIV Golf or whatever it’s called at that point.”

This new dynamic will undoubtedly create a fresh wave of excitement and loyalty among fans. The brutal reality facing Monahan is that LIV Golf’s rise to prominence is almost inevitable. Foltz drove this point home, saying, “Representing your team and winning a world championship as a team member for your specific team, I think is going to be something that is on par with the biggest accomplishments they can have in the game.”

Foltz acknowledges that major championships will remain the most prestigious individual titles in golf. “But that’s what that’s the level and it’s not going to be the majors. It’s not going to be the major championships and the premier stroke-play events are still going to be the most coveted individual titles”, he said and yet he believes that LIV Golf is only going to grow more, in the years to come.
