The PGA Tour is about to undergo a major shake-up, and it’s leaving many golfers on edge. Imagine dedicating your life to the sport, only to find out your spot on the tour is being taken away. That’s the harsh reality facing 25 golfers who’ll be cut off from the roster, reducing the number of players with full status from 125 to 100. It’s not just the numbers that are worrying – it’s the people behind them. Families, livelihoods, and dreams are all at stake.
The proposal also slashes opportunities for up-and-coming players, reducing Korn Ferry cards and Monday qualifiers. Amidst all this, PGA Tour golfer Michael Kim has taken a brutal jab at Jay Monahan and co. about the ongoing talks about the pace of play. When asked about potential solutions for slow play on the PGA Tour on Smylie Kauffman’s YouTube Channel, Michael Kim suggested two provocative ideas and well, it looks like the golfer is onto something. Firstly, Kim proposed introducing a different colored bib for players who consistently take too much time between shots. This would effectively ‘out’ the slowest players, making them easily identifiable to fans and fellow competitors alike.
The top 10 slowest players would be required to wear this bib, potentially subjecting them to heckling from the crowd. “So, you set whatever, like, and anyone over, you know, let’s say, if the average on tour was 40 seconds, anyone over 42 seconds, like a legitimate slow player, they have to wear a different colored bib that everyone in the field knows, and, or, like, the top 10 slowest guys wear a bib, and you know these guys are going to get heckled like crazy”, said the golfer. Kim’s second suggestion was more lighthearted and well it did sound outrageous. “I love Korean food, so just some more Korean food in the lunch area would… would be my thing. Nothing too crazy, maybe some bulgogi beef and some rice”, Kim continued.

This isn’t the first time Kim has taken a jab at the slow-play conundrum.
Michael Kim’s call for change
PGA Tour pro Michael Kim recently ignited a firestorm on social media about slow play in golf. With 223 events under his belt, Kim’s got a deep understanding of the ‘pace of play’. He spoke out about his frustrations, pointing out that the problem goes beyond just a few slow players. For Kim, the real issue is the overcrowding on the course. Interestingly, Kim’s comments coincided with the PGA Tour’s proposal to shrink field sizes starting in 2026 – a change that could ironically impact his own participation, given his current ranking of 115 in the FedEx Fall Rankings.
Yet, Kim’s focus isn’t on self-preservation; he’s driven to find genuine solutions for slow play. Kim isn’t convinced that slapping slow players with fines will do the trick. Instead, he’s calling for a more thoughtful approach to tackle the problem. As someone who’s spent years on the tour, Kim brings a unique perspective to the table – one that highlights just how complicated solving slow play really is.
