Jason Day ends his almost eight-year-long endorsement with Nike. The former No.1 kicked off the 2024 PGA Tour joining Malbon, and it seems, the shift has not been working so far. Day has been heavily trolled for almost every outfit he wore during an event. The practice round of the PGA Championship brought in some positive comments about his attire. But his relief, nevertheless, was not long-lived. As Malbon revealed his outfits for the greens of Valhalla, the golf community yet again had reasons to chuckle.

Just like his uncommon baggy pants, checked shirts, and printed shorts on the golf courses, this time too Malbon has decided to dress Jason Day in yet another unique choice for the game. He will be wearing nothing less than sweatpants at the second Major championship.

As shared by a golf fan page, NUCLR, Day will be switching from one sweatpant to another, pairing them with short sleeves on the first two days and the ultimate round. Whereas, for the third round, he is scripted to be pairing a sweatpant with a short-sleeved shirt. For Thursday, he will wear black and green, followed by all grey on Friday. On Saturday, his outfit comprises black and purple, while for the final day, he will once again switch to green.

After the great Masters controversy, where he was accused of violating the rules, as the Malbon logo was too big as per the Augusta National guidelines, he was asked to remove his vest in the middle of the round. It was then that Day had stated that he had no say in what outfit he chose. It is the brand that scripts outfits for the players, and they have to wear what they are sent.

While he was just appreciated a few days ago for bringing back the old-school look on the greens, Jason Day is once again caught up in the spirals of troll.

The Golf community takes a dig at Jason Day’s outfit

Sweatpants clearly might be an extremely comfortable outfit to wear during winter nights, but they are the last choice when it comes to playing golf, especially at an event as prestigious as the Majors. They are not just informal but do not adhere to the garment requirements for the field.

Addressing the matter, one of them brought about a tone of humor and stated that he should be sent to jail for wearing sweatpants on the Valhalla course. They wrote, “Sweatpants at a major should be 25-life in prison”. While it was a joke, the sentiments were indeed true. Another pointed out all the ridiculous experiments that Mallbon has been trying to pull off with Jason Day’s attire, making all the focus from his gameplay to what he wears. Taking to this, they wrote, “He is going to be the reason they start discussing a Tour Dress Code.”

His practice round all-white attire was not just comfortable, but also breathable and playable. However, the ones for the final event simply are not well thought out! Taking to this, one of the fans, in utter shock, curious to know if those are the outfits that Jason Day will be wearing at the PGA Championship this weekend, enquired, “So he’s wearing sweats?”

Well, the sweatpants were not just the plain basic ones. They were designed with drawcord with cord lock and rubber tips. This, according to Malbon, was supposed to be a great flex in the attire. however, it clearly will serve as a distraction in between the games. Accusing the designer of not understanding the requirements of playing golf, one of them simply commented, “Those drawstrings will be hella annoying over 18 holes. The designer has never played golf”.

Despite all the hate comments that his outfit has been receiving, it is also important to state that not all of them were on the negative side. Some of them were enjoying the fact that Malbon’s outfits made Jason Day stand out in the field, and well, it is needless to mention that they had the GenZ drip. The fact is evident from comments like, “His fits are sick idk why everyone can’t see it” and “Can’t believe I am saying this, but I am digging the Malbon vibe.”

Well, whether they will work out for him or not, will only be figured out after the first round on Thursday. Nonetheless, one thing is pretty much clear. Malbon stands out in their marketing strategies, for they are surely making it to the headlines, for whatever reasons it might be. They do know their game.
