Although golf and high fashion don’t usually mix, and players keep it simple on the greens. However, at the 2024 Masters, they did so in a way that had everyone talking. Star golfer and Malbon Golf brand ambassador Jason Day was the target of controversy after showing up in several out-of-the-ordinary outfits throughout the competition.

Day kept his cool in the face of controversy, saying he was just comfortable in the attire and concentrated on the competition. He also revealed that his sponsors made the clothing choices, raising the possibility that he didn’t have much say in the matter. Interestingly, this begs the question – was there a benefit to Malbon’s brand image, or did the negative publicity around Day’s attire hurt it?

The 28-year-old has been wearing colorful and eye-catching clothes from Malbon Golf as their ambassador.

Hull recently uploaded a picture of herself on the course to Instagram wearing a bright blue sweater with the Malbon emblem clearly visible on it. In an interview with the Par 3 Podcast, this is what the founders said, “I think it’s amazing what Jason Day will wear and how he can look fashionable while playing golf.” Their support for Jason Day was evident through this comment. They went on to add, “if you saw someone wearing on the streets of New York Soho it wouldn’t be a deal at all. You’d be like oh that guy looks great with the fact that he is wearing it on tour I guess it really upsets people and I think it’s funny because you know people are really really rattled by it and I think that really shows how what Malbon’s doing you know is shaking things up.”

Finally, one fan directly brings up the controversy by commenting, “can’t wear that sweater at the Masters”. This fan’s comment directly links Hull’s sweater bearing the Malbon brand to the issue surrounding Jason Day’s Malbon Masters outfit. It is implied that Hull’s outfit, which her supporters praised, would probably come under equal scrutiny from the Augusta National administration, who imposed a strict dress code on Day.

Together, these fan responses show how well-received Charley Hull’s outfit has been, in contrast to Jason Day’s negative reaction to his Malbon-branded apparel. The comments range from direct comparisons to positive ratings to simple yet heartfelt compliments, all of which emphasize the golfing community’s appreciation for Hull’s fashion choices.
