The relationship between the Lone Star State and the PGA Tour Champions began in 2004 with the arrival of the star-studded Insperity Invitational. Now in its 22nd year, the Woodlands Country Club event will continue its tradition of Excellence, featuring a field that includes players like Bernhard Langer, Colin Montgomerie, and Vijay Singh. However, it’s the event following the Insperity Invitational that is drawing attention, thanks to Jack Nicklaus honoring his friendship with Gary Player with the help of Annika Sorenstam.

The Folds of Honor Greats of Golf is a yearly exhibition golf tournament that takes place in Texas after the PGA Tour Champions’ Insperity Invitational ends. This 9-hole scramble showcases some of the most prominent names in golf from recent decades, all coming together to support Folds of Honor, a non-profit organization. Since it began in 2007, the event has awarded 44,000 scholarships amounting to around $200 million across all 50 states through the non-profit.

Have an interesting take?

This year, the event will feature legendary golfers like Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Annika Sörenstam, and 17 other iconic golfers for the Folds of Honor Greats of Golf. Nicklaus and his team will bring three additional Hall of Famers into the mix, including Sir Nick Faldo, Curtis Strange, and Mark O’Meara, marking an increase from the previous year’s 17 iconic players for the Folds of Honor.

Although the Saturday event is already generating a lot of excitement, Nicklaus and Player tried to add some spice by sharing a group photo on Nicklaus’ Instagram account. In the post, Nicklaus thanked Sörenstam for helping him maintain the tradition ahead of the Insperity Invitational and the Folds of Honor Greats of Golf. Along with Nicklaus and Sörenstam, Barbara Nicklaus, Gary Player, Mike McGee, and James Throssell are also present. Annika Sörenstam added to the excitement by replying, “Love our tradition!!”

This isn’t the first time the world has seen this tradition unfold, however. For instance, in 2024, Annika Sörenstam shared another group photo with fans. In this photo, both Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus were present.

Celebrating its 17th year at Woodlands Country Club, the event will host the iconic Folds of Honor on Saturday. This Saturday’s event will include 20 players competing in a scramble format, an increase from 17 in 2024. All 20 players will start on the 10th hole after the last group in the Insperity Invitational finishes their game. Additionally, each group, consisting of five members, will feature one of the greatest women golfers participating in this Saturday’s event. And this tradition at the Woodlands will likely continue in the upcoming years, thanks to this latest announcement.

The Insperity Invitational and Woodlands Country Club share a strong bond

According to a latest update, the iconic event will continue at Woodlands at least until 2030. According to the most recent discussions between Insperity and the PGA Tour Champions, the Woodlands Country Club will host more events for the Insperity Invitational in the coming years. In a press conference discussing this iconic moment, Paul Sarvadi, the chairman and CEO of Insperity, stated, “Our involvement with this golf tournament aligns with Insperity’s mission to help businesses succeed so that communities prosper.” As a result, the company will continue sponsoring the PGA Tour Champions event until 2030.

This year, players on the Champions Tour will compete for the largest prize money ($3 million) in a non-major event on the PGA TOUR Champions. Since its inception in 2004, the tournament has significantly benefited the Houston area, contributing over $21 million to local charities. The Insperity Invitational has earned several awards for its positive impact on the community. Additionally, this year, Scott Dunlap will defend his 2024 Insperity Invitational title, so we will see more than one event unfold at Woodlands this year! Are you excited?
