Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus are two of the biggest names in golf. Moreover, as the two descended from the heights of their careers, both decided to stay true to their passion and venture into another aspect of the game; golf course designing. And now, the two are reportedly partnering with each other.

Their 60+ year friendship has evolved beautifully. From being competitors and rivals on the course to joining hands for a business, they’ve come very far. Jack Nicklaus designs are one of the leading forces in the golf course designing and construction market. In these years, he has to his credit over 410 courses, including 12 courses on Golf Digest’s ’75 Best Golf Resorts in North America.’

Meanwhile, Gary Player has created over 135 courses around the world. However, under restructuring of his business ventures called Gary Player Enterprises, he sought the help of his dear friend Nicklaus’s company, calling it the ‘most talented and thorough design firm in the world’.

Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus announce a ‘global strategic alliance’

Gary Player made the news public on his Instagram, writing, “I look forward to going from strength to strength in this next chapter of my design career,” even calling Nicklaus the best designer in the business.

He also made public his wish of ‘getting his hands dirty and designing courses that are nature-friendly and conducive to growing the game’.

Paul Stringer, President of Nicklaus Design, saidWe look forward to helping Gary Player Design translate his vision into unique designs for new golf courses and reach out to Gary’s existing golf courses to help them remain up to date and competitive as new trends develop in the industry.”

While Player, in a statement, expressed his gratitude for the events unfolding. He said, “I’m so pleased that Jack agreed to this. We’re not partners, as such, but I love designing courses. And now we’ll be able to have the benefit of Jack’s resources and to help bring about my design ideas.”
