The Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai is currently underway in Hawaii and the stout field is all prepared. However, before the competitiveness begins, Tuesday night witnessed the PGA Tour Champions Annual Dinner, held on the season-opening event’s first day. And one thing that stood out from the festivities was the truly emotional speech given by Jim Furyk.

While Bernhard Langer won the race for the Player of the year, Jim Furyk’s three victories on the tour propelled him to bag the Rookie of the Year award! What’s more, he bagged the Byron Nelson Award, which is conferred on the player with the best scoring average (68.84).

Jim Furyk expresses his thoughts on the PGA Tour Champions

In his two years on the tour, Furyk has won 3 titles, including the Senior U.S. Open. In addition, the still-active golfer on the PGA Tour boasts of 17 victories on the field where the main battles take place.

The 51-year-old admitted, “I didn’t know what to expect a year and a half ago and what I thought about PGA Tour champions. I mean, you turn fifty. I felt like I could maybe put my 4-iron away for a while and maybe get back to hitting 8-iron, 9-iron, wedge. Which has been fun, but I’ve definitely found a home and we have a special place and it’s because of the folks that were ahead of us. And we’re going to hopefully leave it in a better place than we received it.”
