The early signs of a storm were already there. First, two players were missing when team USA went to scout Marco Simone. Then came the bombshell report that claimed the USA team is ‘fractured’ from inside. And now, Xander Schauffele’s father, Stefan Schauffele, has shared a major update that adds fuel to the fire.
Stefan Schauffele, known for his jovial personality, has slammed the PGA of America for their “shameful” actions. Apparently, PGA went incommunicado when Schauffele and his close buddy Patrick Cantlay wanted to make amendments to the player contract. Apparently, the governing body threatened to kick the current world no.6 out of the team unless he signed the contract as it is.

The duo were at the eye of the storm after reports emerged that they wanted to get paid to represent USA at the Ryder Cup. Although, Cantlay has since then repeatedly denied these allegations, now Schauffele’s father has said both the players wanted some changes to the player participation and contract agreement drafted by PGA of America.
Reportedly, the contract included an agreement to allow Netflix cameras inside the US locker room. Netflix was supposed to shoot the second part of the “Full Swing” documentary. However, the Current World. No. 5 & 6 raised concerns about it and eventually, a vote was taken. It was unanimously decided to block the cameras inside the USA locker room.
However, what riled Stefan was the lack of communication from PGA of America. Bunkered quoted him as saying: “The PGA of America were not willing to even talk to us about [the amendments].” According to him, it was simply conveyed that if the agreement was not signed his son would be out of the squad.
Eventually, in early September, they agreed to share the contact of the PGA legal counsel. He further added, it only took a few hours to sort out the dispute. However, the hassle the Schauffele family had to go through for these minor tweaks, has not sit well with him: “Then I received a message that Xander was back on the team. That you can quote. That’s the extent of this and I think it’s shameful.”

To make matters worse for the duo, a British media report claimed that Cantlay and Schauffele, has ostracized themselves from the team. Reportedly, Cantlay demanded that Ryder Cuppers be paid for participating. Allegedly, the seven-time PGA Tour winner stood by his side. Without a doubt, this was an utterly forgettable week for Team USA. It appears that controversies aren’t leaving them behind. After the Ryder Cup debacle, these comments add insult to injury.
