Ever tried to imitate the Nelly Korda swing? Korda’s posture and movement are not just famous among her fans; they’re favorites of swing coaches as well. However, the eight-time LPGA Tour winner, despite being the favorite ‘student’ of coaches, is not the biggest advocate of traditional norms. In fact, the rather ‘strange’ position is ingrained in her DNA, Korda admits.

Korda was talking with Grant Horvat after booming her drive shot in a practice round with the Florida native. The two, in a fun match, finished even at 2-under. But the outing was more about Korda unveiling her secrets and chiming in on all things golf.

Nelly Korda, after making a birdie, moved to the next par-5 hole and knocked off a booming drive from 498 yards. An impressed Horvat blurted it out. “That was… Killed!!” Korda, however, while picking up the tee, casually exclaimed, “I needed an aggressive line.”

However, being an amateur golfer himself, Horvat was naturally curious about the tee placement and clubhead position of the 26-year-old. The Palm Beach Atlantic University alum pointed out the ‘oddity’ in Korda’s drive. Contrary to common practice, the LPGA star keeps her club back from the steps a little more.

Quizzed by Horvat, Korda revealed she shoots the ball “half a degree” down on her driver. “That’s crazy,” a bemused Horvat exclaimed, as most coaches would advise against that. But the one-time Major winner admitted, “It’s part of my DNA now.” In fact, if you asked Korda to position her club like most golfers do—closer to her left foot—she would be at her wit’s end.

Firstly, Korda admits she would feel “Oh my gosh! That’s so in front of me.” Secondly, swinging upwards “feels so unnatural” to the 26-year-old golfer. To each their own, that is Korda’s mantra. The fun outing also served as a good practice round for the LGPA star, as she braces herself for the 2024 season in a week’s time.

Korda, who failed to bag any titles last season, slipped four positions in the Rolex World Ranking to No. 5. Furthermore, her first outing was also doubtful because of an eye infection. However, Korda shared in her Instagram story that the infection is all but gone. So, in case you didn’t notice the little oddity, keep a keen eye on January 18.
