Wasn’t it long ago that LIV Golf was all the rage? We mean, they were promising young golfers like Eugenio Chacarra majors, OWGR points, and the whole nine yards. But as it turns out, those promises were basically empty words. Chacarra, who won on LIV in just his 5th start after turning pro is now speaking out about his disappointing experience with the league and is revealing that the focus on money over major qualifications is a major betrayal to its players.
Apparently, they’re more focused on making money than actually helping their golfers succeed. Hence, golfers like Chacarra are looking for a new opportunity now, hoping to get a PGA Tour card and actually achieve their dreams. It’s a story that’s all too familiar, as many other LIV golfers have expressed similar frustrations which has left them feeling misled by the league’s initial promises and now, Jon Rahm is also weighing in on the issue.
In a press conference with Hero Dubai Desert Classic 2025, Jon Rahm shared his thoughts on the current state of LIV Golf. Specifically, he talked about how frustrating it’s been that LIV players still aren’t receiving World Ranking points, despite being a year into the league. Rahm revealed that he was initially told that LIV wouldn’t pursue discussions with the World Ranking system to the same level, but he believes it’s wrong to deny LIV players the credibility they deserve.

” I think I’ve expressed my opinions on the World Ranking system before I joined LIV. But they told us — they told me early on, I think even before I signed in the early conversations, that they were not going to pursue those discussions to the same level because they knew where it was directed.” Rahm also emphasized that LIV players should have a way to qualify for major championships without relying on invites. “And the World Ranking points, need to figure something out because it’s not fair for anybody in that sense”, he said.

In contrast to Rahm’s sentiments and frustration, his peer Joaquin Niemann had said that he sees a future where LIV golfers can play in majors without an invite.

Joaquin Niemann expressed in 2024 that he was feeling pretty hopeful that LIV Golf will finally secure its own route into the four men’s Majors by 2025 but there is no light in sight, at least right now. Currently, LIV Golf players have no guaranteed way of qualifying for the Majors, which is pretty tough given the number of talent they have in the league. Niemann played in three Majors in 2024 by getting invites to The Masters and PGA Championship and qualifying for The Open after winning the 2023 Australian Open. He said that he believed the top 10 players in the LIV Golf standings should qualify for the Majors, saying “There’s definitely 10 guys, top 10 guys here that could win Majors.”
At the time, Niemann was planning to compete on the DP World Tour at the end of the season to try and accumulate world ranking points and earn his way into the Majors. He was also looking to capitalize on open spots at events like the Australian Open. Despite the uncertainty, Niemann’s confidence was palpable that LIV Golf would find a way to get its players into the Majors. “I feel like they’ve got to pull for the best of the game, and I think that’s the right way to do it,” he said. “I’m pretty optimistic. I think it will happen.” Well, we surely don’t have anything as of yet but it surely will be a big change in the world of golf if LIV golfers do get into majors. What do you think?
