How did technology impact John Daly’s career?
John Daly was in an interview with David Meltzer from Sports 1 Marketing. The two talked about Daly’s golf career and all the ups and downs that he saw along the way. During the conversation, Meltzer asked Daly how technology had affected his game through the years. And his response was not very different from what was expected.
Daly has been able to hit shots as a Senior as long as he used to do when he was young. And it has all been possible due to the technology involved in the game. The shape and weight of the driver make a huge difference in the amount of power required to hit a ball to a certain distance. But Daly’s concern was something else.

“The golf ball I think has been the big deal,” Daly said. “I think the golf ball just flies further”. He added, “Technology, to be honest, has not really helped John Daly at all, it’s actually hurt me”. When asked if the new technology helped the other golfers on the field, Daly said, “It’s made golf easier for people to start. For me I think it’s killed me cause I’m not as great as I used to be”. Well, if Daly is not great, who is? The golf legend recently hit his 11th hole-in-one, and that too barefoot. No matter how old he is, he is still nowhere near the thought of retirement. But he still thinks he is not as great as he was.
John Daly expressed his wishes regarding the Senior Tour
When asked about what he wanted to change in the PGA Tour, Daly didn’t show much enthusiasm. Rather, he talked about how the Senior Tour shouldn’t be governed by any rules. The golfer said that despite the fact the players didn’t receive World Ranking Points, they had to play by rules. And it was not what he wanted from the tour. He even felt that the players on the Senior Tour had no status compared to those on other tours.
