It is part of golf etiquette to walk around the opponent when he or she is reading his putt. As a professional golfer, Scottie Scheffler was at least expected to apologize for breaking the golf etiquette. However, all he did was share an awkward look with the Australian golfer.
Notably, recent reports stated that the 150th Open champion is next in line to join LIV Golf. The reports are yet to be confirmed. However, suspicions have been raised after watching the awkward encounter between the two golfers.
Twitter reacts to the awkward moment
Recently, the professional golfer Cameron Percy stated that his fellow Australian golfer, Cameron Smith, is to join the LIV Golf Invitational Series. Moreover, The Telegraph reported that he received $AUD140 million for playing in the Saudi-backed league.

Since such a rumor revolves around the golfer, the golf world believes that Scheffler’s actions are somehow related to the news.
It's getting physical now. Can the LIV dudes just pack and go.

In my opinion the difference isn’t too big. Granted actually stepping in his line can affect the ball. Both moves are extremely rude. it’s virtually impossible for Scotty to be unaware of what he did. I don’t buy “accidentally or unintentionally.”

That’s totally unprofessional.Shows he lack of class.

The fact that PGA players can’t get off their high horse is making their product less watchable. If they want to talk morals, they better not look into every sponsorship of the PGA…

Cam Smith is 5 yards back from his mark. What was Scheffler supposed to do? Walk in the bunker? He didnt step in his line. He walked in between Smith and his ball mark. Big difference.

If this was intentional, a lot of respect lost Scottie. Not a liv guy but that’s Busch league and shows his head clearly isn’t in the right place. His score reflected that today

Why give respect to someone that doesn’t deserve it?

Hopefully Scottie will be suspended for deliberately trying to put off a competitor
Of course we know that won’t happen— Andrew Kirby (@AndrewKirbyGolf) August 11, 2022
Notably, the golf world had different opinions on the matter. While some justified Scheffler’s actions, others didn’t. Some even expressed their opposition to letting Smith play in the FedExCup playoffs, despite joining the LIV Golf.
Has Cameron Smith already signed with LIV Golf?
“You know, my goal here is to win the FedExCup Playoffs,” Smith said in the press meet when the reporters asked him about the rumors. “That’s all I’m here for,” he further stated. “If there’s something I need to say regarding the PGA Tour or LIV, it’ll come from Cameron Smith, not Cameron Percy.”

Smith won his first major championship at the 2022 Open Championship held at St. Andrews, the home of golf. Notably, he had then addressed the rumors of him joining the LIV Golf with a vague response. “I don’t know, mate,” he had said then.
