The Spanish golfer has been loyal to the PGA Tour since his induction in 2016. The two-time Major Championship winner has a substantial standing in the American circuit as well as various accomplishments on the European circuit. He claimed the title of European Tour Golfer of the Year in 2019.

Now, with the extensive experience of working alongside the commissioner for years, Jon Rahm shared his thoughts on the $3 billion merger which has been causing so much commotion. “I only think it’s fair to give them the right time to work things out,” he said about the authorities. His support of Jay Monahan in these dire times was also tweeted by NUCLR GOLF.

Firstly, Rahm agrees that the decision was taken behind their backs, which caused most of the backlash. However, he strongly believes that “[the PGA Tour policy board and Jay Monahan] have the best interest of the players at heart.” This is not the time to panic or throw shade at anyone for their decision.

The former World No. 1 also pointed out that it is just a framework agreement. “It’s an agreement to have an agreement. We really don’t have anything right now to be able to say or judge what they’ve done,” he justified.

Rahm also spoke praises for Jay Monahan who he believes has always stood by the PGA Tour players and takes decisions that will affect them positively in the long run. His support for the big man not only demonstrates his loyalty to the American tour but also shows his rationale.

Everyone has their opinion

While the Spaniard made some excellent points in favor of Jay Monahan and the controversial merger talks, there are certain things to be taken into account. The members of the board (players) felt betrayed for not being consulted. Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods both turned down multi million-dollar deals from LIV Golf to show their support for the PGA Tour. Their feeling of betrayal runs deep in light of the American tour even considering an agreement, framework or not.

Also, veteran golfer Tom Watson posed some interesting questions as a stakeholder. If the framework agreement does resolve to fruition, his points need to be noted when making the decision. The entities who will be affected by the merger are still worried, but no one can deny that Jay Monahan indeed has the Tour’s best interest at heart, which was technically Rahm’s point.
