In the next 24 hours, Scottie Scheffler may get his seventh PGA Tour title of the year! With this, the world No. 1 would probably be miles ahead of Xander Schauffele in the Player of the Year race. Scheffler, with 26 under par currently at the TOUR Championship, stays untouchable and on the top for the first three days.

After the moving day, the difference between him and the second golfer, Collin Morikawa is five strokes. Given the circumstances, it is highly likely that Scheffler will take home the decorated Tiffany & Co. home and the $25 million winner’s payout. But there have been previous two times when the 28-year-old started at East Lake with a staggered lead and then couldn’t capitalize on it.

Scheffler was asked at the press conference about the same, addressing if losing in the last two editions was quite disappointing. The 12-time PGA Tour winner agreed and said, “It’s disappointing anytime I don’t win.” Recounting the 2022 TOUR Championship, when Scheffler was only one stroke behind leader Rory McIlroy and his first TOUR Championship win, he said, “I felt like two years ago I had a really good chance to win, wasn’t able to get it done.”

Then he pondered upon his performance in 2023. Scheffler was T6 when Viktor Hovland won, and although he could not remember the specifics, the 2-time major winner at least remembers playing a couple of bad last rounds and not playing well enough. He further reiterated, “It’s just one of those deals where anytime you don’t win a tournament, I’m going to leave pretty disappointed. That’s pretty much it.” 

But it seems that this time Scheffler will probably not leave East Lake disappointed but with a smile of how he conquered the 2024 edition. In all its essence, the 2024 season has not been the disappointing one for the world no. 1 . Yet, while talking about his biggest upsets at the season-ending championship, there have been two times when Scheffler did not perform up to par.

What was Scottie Scheffler’s disappointment in the 2024 season?

Well, keeping aside the misunderstanding that made Scottie Scheffler an inmate for an hour in Louisville, Valhalla, then there are two on the course performances that were a little disappointing coming from Scheffler. Notably, the 27-year-old has played 18 events so far in the 2024 season. Out of these, Scheffler finished in the top 10 of fifteen, which is quite an incredible feat. But there were two times when his form dwindled.

The first was at the 124th US Open in Pinehurst No. 2. The slippery greens of Pinehurst were proving to be a nightmare for the whole field but for Scheffler, it was the worst. The 12-time PGA Tour winner just could not putt in and finished 8 over 288 in a tie at 41. He was coming off of a victory at the Memorial Tournament, so his performance at the US Open shocked many. The second-worst performance by Scheffler was just last week.

At the BMW Championship, the 6,200 altitude at the Castle Pines Golf Club was working against the world no. 1 pro. At one point, he had a meltdown and just could not understand his shots missing the greens. In the end, get finished T33 his only second out of the top 25 scores and was confident that he would not make those mistakes at East Lake. Although there have been only two times that Scheffler slipped this year, and after incredible three rounds, he would to not repeat it for the third time at the Tour Championship.
