With his win this week, Glover put an end to his 2-year-long winless drought. The golf pro carded excellent rounds throughout the four days to reach a tally of 20 under par at the end of Sunday. His game was smooth, and most putts were dropping; hence, the American star owed it all to the revolutionary putter that had only recently made its way into his bag!

For years now, Glover has been haunted by the putting yips, ever since a four-putt incident ten years ago at the Colonial. The putting yips are a psychological condition in which a golfer experiences involuntary muscle spasms or jerks while attempting to putt. But Lucas now seemed to be over it. “It’s been a long road fighting something for 10 years,” he stated, explaining how his switch from a short to a long putter had helped pave the way to his newfound success!

The one-time major winner’s switch to the long putter proved to be a game-changer, transforming his putting stats from a dismal 180th in Strokes Gained: Putting to an impressive 15th. Turning to the long putter was a radical move that required rewiring his brain and adopting a whole new process. Through determination and sheer willpower, the Wyndham Championship winner has managed to overcome the yips and find success on the greens.

As he looked back on his decade-long battle, Lucas Glover had a one-word response about the most radical thing he had done to fix his putting: “This.” That referred to everything he had done! And even though his victory in itself was a big deal, the day itself made it more special since it paid homage to his “mentor”.

August 6th remains an unforgettable day in Glover’s life. And while one would think it was because he found his fifth PGA Tour win on the day, that reason is far from the truth. The date marked his grandfather’s birthday, and winning on the day made his win even more special considering it was his grandad who had introduced him to the sport and played a vital role in his taking to golf.
