The recent news of the ball rollback policy by the R&A and USGA stunned the golf world. Many have shown their disdain against it while others have come out in support and deem it necessary for the game’s future. On Wednesday, the golf world was made aware of the rollback policy, which will reduce the yard speed of the ball and increase the spin.

The changes will be seen for professional players from 2028 and for amateurs from 2030. Team Nelly Korda and Tony Finau have also added their names among the golfers sharing their verdicts on the issue. Korda and Finau are playing at the Grant Thornton Invitational and expressed their thoughts on the rollback policy.

The finalization of the news came out on Wednesday when Nelly Korda and Tony Finau were engaged in their Pro-Am at Tiburon Golf Course. In the post-match press conference, Team FiNelly shared their thoughts on the change of rules.

Korda first remarked, “I honestly don’t have too much knowledge on it,” as she heard about it only after her round. The 1x major champion then added, “It’s all just about adapting.” Korda talked about the constant technological changes that occur in the game of golf and said, “The best players are still going to be the best players. It’s just about who’s going to adapt the quickest and the easiest.”

Her playing partner, Finau, echoed the same sentiment as also learned about the new updates on the policy just minutes before the press conference. However, Finau did not find the news surprising, as he had been hearing about the policy for quite some time.

He agreed with his fellow teammates’ stance on the issue and said, “No matter where you stand, we’re going to have to deal with it starting in ’28.” As Korda agreed and said, “You’re just going to have to adapt.” The unfazed reaction of both golfers seemed as if they were not as affected by the policy as others.

The rollback policy divides the golf world

The announced rule had many for it and many against it. While 2023’s longest-hitter Rory McIlroy showed his support for the policy, many on the PGA Tour were against the idea. Justin Thomas, Justin Rose, Rickie Fowler, and Keegan Bradley are a few who opposed the newest set of rules. While Tiger Woods, Padraig Harrington, and many others were ready to adapt and showed support for the changes.
