John Daly is one of the most popular golfers in America. He got his fame after winning his first major at the 1991 PGA Championship as the ninth alternative in his PGA Tour rookie year. Furthermore, he is also famous for his long-hitting, rightfully giving him the nickname, ‘Long John.’
However, what he is not known for is playing a slow game in a tournament. And the golfer didn’t find it amusing when someone alleged him of the same.

In a video posted by a fan, Daly can be seen driving his golf cart through a course with his caddie. Furthermore, he can be heard complaining to his caddie, “I’m not playing it slow. It’s a f**king joke.”

Although it is unknown who called his game slow, evidently, the golfer seemed mad about it.
The tournament officials once fined John Daly for his fast play
During the 1992 Players Championship, Daly and fellow golfer Mark Calcavecchia played together in the final round. Notably, they finished the round in under two hours and three minutes.

Golfers and spectators often criticize players like Bryson DeChambeau for their slow game. However, this time, the PGA Tour officials found Daly and Calcavecchia’s play so fast that they fined them.
“Me and Mark just wanted to have some fun,” Daly said in his defense. “We wanted to show the fans a good time, and I think they enjoyed it,” he further added. “They didn’t care what we shot. They had a good time out there.”
We didn’t end up getting fined. Wrote letters of appeal that did the trick. @PGA_JohnDaly made a 10 on 5th hole and I finished 7-4-7. So our argument was we were playing better then the day before so no fine. My trip on 18 cost us fracking 2 hours. Still mad about it 🤬 https://t.co/38ImIjD0cB

Almost three decades later, Calcavecchia revealed through a Twitter post that the officials withdrew the fine imposed on them.
Daly even hates slow greens!
John Daly started playing on the PGA Tour Champions in 2016. And one time, when his fellow Senior Tour golfers loved the slow green the University Ridge Golf Course provided for them at the 2016 American Family Insurance Championship, he thought otherwise.

The golfer didn’t enjoy playing on the slow green and expressed his opinion. “I shouldn’t have to change my stroke,” he had then said. “I’ve never been a slow putter. I’ve always been a pretty decent fast putter.”
Daly is a man of pace, and being fined for a fast game is testament to that fact. No wonder he reacted when somebody accused him of playing a slow game!
