Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s new initiative
Rory McIlroy and his idol, Tiger Woods, have been part of the PGA tour for years now. With the ongoing LIV Golf drama, they have vehemently opposed the Saudi-funded tour. Woods also happened to reject their multi-million dollar offer.

Recently Woods and Rory formed their partnership with a new PGA Tour-partnered golf venture: TGL. This new golf league is a high-tech golf league which will feature 6 teams.

These teams will be made of the top PGA Tour players. The play will begin in January 2024.
The first look of the tour
TGL posted a sneak peak into the tour on Twitter, and people went nuts swamping the comment section with their views.

If we take the intention and efforts into consideration, the idea behind the tour is good. The entry of LIV Golf posed as a threat to the PGA tour, with prominent players leaving the PGA for better offers. Woods and Rory understood the sensitivity of the situation and, hence, went ahead with this initiative.
The future seems bright with Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s TGL
Golf lovers and prominent golf figures took twitter and supported TGL wholeheartedly. They said they have hopes for it and it is indeed going to be interesting.
🚨First look at the TGL Golf league from Tiger & Rory. I could see this being popular. Looks kinda sick pic.twitter.com/vPcgVobaFU

People said that this can be the beginning of something new. Some people have left it on time. And they see it not as a competitor of LIV, but as a promoter of golf.
Will have to see how it works, but this looks more like a golf reality game show with PGA golfers and prize money.
I don’t think it’s trying to compete with LIV. It feels like it’s trying to find another way to promote the game to a different audience in a new format.

Some fans have also expressed their love and happiness about Woods getting back into the game as they will get to see him more.
Tiger punching back! Year and a half seems like a long lead time though. Look forward to it.

In fact, some fans took this opportunity to share LIV’s reaction upon the launch of TGL.

TGL is doomed for failure?
Like every coin has two sides, there were some fans who didn’t think it was a good idea after all. According to them, TGL has no future…
Frankly, I can’t imagine this being super popular. It’ll die down faster than LIV. And on Mondays of all day. Now that’s funny

Along with ‘no future’ perspective, the biggest turnoff for the people was the simulator. Fans did not approve of the fact of watching golfers play in a simulator.
First impressions are important and frankly I don't see the attraction of watching players, even Tiger, hit balls into a simulator. Real life shot making with real targets is what captures our attention as golf fans.. but a simulator?? Please guys 🤦♂️ like why wouldn't they ask…

Not just this, some fans also trolled Woods and his decision to start TGL as they saw nothing productive out of it.

This is all about trying to keep Tiger involved in the game since his body won’t allow him to compete for 72 holes. Will be like watching someone at the bar play Golden Tee.

Watching guys hit balls into a screen looks sick? Im a huge fan of Tiger, Rory, and the PGA tour for the most part. But this looks like a huge miss. I can go to Golf Galaxy and watch guys hit into a simulator screen.

We certainly do not know what the future holds. All we can do is wait and see if TGL will live up to the expectations of Woods and Rory or it will be dumped. One thing is for sure, the simulator is something that real golf lovers are not appreciating because they like watching the game live on the course…but, technology is steadily growing. The Metaverse is here, so TGL can actually, in the near future, become a great initiative.
