When Steve Williams’ tell-all, Out of the Rough (co-authored with journalist Mike Donaldson), came out, many were quick to devour the many interesting details from his time caddying for Tiger Woods. After all, Williams had been in the bag for Woods for over a decade and was privy to many personal details about the legend’s life.

In his book, the former caddie also made big revelations about the 15-time major winner’s marriage with Elin Nordegren. At one point in his book, Williams even shed light on the time the former couple inadvertently stole his thunder away at his own wedding! Let’s dive in to find out more.

Tiger Woods’ ex-caddie talks about being upstaged by golfer during a big moment

Back in the day, Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren’s almost six-year-long marriage was under constant limelight. Their eventual separation in 2010 was highly publicized as well, with the golf community wanting to know more about the pair’s time together. Out of Touch, an autobiography written by Woods’ former caddie, offers these details in abundance.

In the book, Steve Williams recounted how the former couple’s presence at his wedding affected the ceremony. “It wasn’t as nice as it could have been. We put too much thought into how it was for Tiger and Elin and how we were going to look after them and keep things private,” Williams wrote. “For instance, we didn’t let anyone bring cameras to our wedding because we wanted their privacy to be protected.”

However, the New Zealander did admit that Woods and his ex-wife had zero faults in everything that went down, with them supposedly saying, ‘Don’t worry about us – treat us like anyone else,’ to Williams. But, given the chance, would the former bagman have liked to do things a bit differently? Apparently, yes. “I would love to do it again and make it about ourselves…one day,” he had written in the 2015 memoir.

Williams has given further insight into his rocky relationship with the golfer in the book. He even recalled the time the 82-time PGA Tour winner received flak from Williams’ wife, Kristy, after his infamous infidelity scandal.

In 2009, Tiger Woods’ family life fell apart after reports of him being unfaithful to his wife came to the surface. Back then, Steve Williams was still caddying for Woods and came under significant scrutiny as a result.

An excerpt from the former bagman’s memoir reveals the turmoil that his wife, Kristy, had to go through during the ordeal. “A lot of people thought he [Steve Williams] was doing it too and that he and Tiger were going out together,” she shared. However, the turbulent times failed to sever her bond with her husband. “I never doubted Steve.”

Per the book, they had even asked Woods to clear Williams’ name. However, the golfer reportedly didn’t budge.
