The Hong Kong Open, organized by the Asian Tour, is gearing up for its 2023 edition. The field of the event came out recently, and it included some big names, especially from LIV Golf. Besides players like Cameron Smith and Talor Gooch, to name a few, Patrick Reed is also on the roster.

Ahead of the Hong Kong Open that starts on November 9, Patrick Reed spoke at a press conference. He shared his thoughts on the experience of being a worldwide player. He also touched upon the real motivation behind his move to LIV from the PGA Tour. 

Real reason why Patrick Reed left PGA Tour

‘Captain America’ Patrick Reed opened up about how he had always wanted to be a worldwide player. He explained that he wanted to travel, explore different countries and their golf courses. He then confessed his disappointment over the PGA Tour over the matter.

Reed spoke about how he didn’t have freedom and flexibility when he was playing for the PGA Tour. In his own words, “It was hard to become the worldwide player that I wanted to be.” He mentioned how playing for the European Tour aka the DP World Tour helped him experience that to an extent. 

He added, “The biggest thing, it is why I joined LIV, was that it allowed me to venture out and not only to play around the world, but also to have a schedule to come play events like this.” Speaking of Hong Kong, he expressed his admiration for the beauty of the area and the experience he gets there.

Reed will also be playing in the 2023 Indonesian Masters that begins on November 16. The event will conclude the International series. With the LIV season coming to an end, looks like Reed is enjoying his golfing trips a lot.

Reed also admitted why he enjoys participating in international events.

Patrick Reed as a global player

The 33-year-old opened up about his motivation for playing in tournaments like this. He said people look forward to seeing top global players in person, rather than on TV. He felt that it was a special experience for them. 

The tweet by Flushing It that shared his quotes, ended by crediting Patrick Reed for being a true global player. It compared his journey with golfers who migrated to the US and only left for a couple of weeks. It expressed appreciation for the support Reed offers European events and compared it to how the Asian Tour fans are probably feeling.
